I just noticed the very first onset of flowers on my plants two days ago. Quite premature though. They caught me quite unaware , because for some weird reason I wasn't expecting them this time of the year.... Dunno why I wasn't...The plants are about three years old I guess. And they vary slightly in height. They're roughly between 90 cm and one meter now.
But it's only the lower / older branches that carry them. Definitely not top to bottom, so the yield will be quite limited. But nevertheless , very happy that the wait is over & time to read up on processing beans sometime soon.....
I guess you are referring to me Graham ? I am About 50 K's South- west of Newcastle and about 100 K's north of Sydney. Lake Macquarrie area. We've had a very wishy-washy spring and quite a cold winter. By memory ,nicely warm one day, then fairly cool- cold the next.... as well as a dry spell for quite a while ( early spring ). Got the hose out every second or third day.Used a bit of gen Purpose Thrive and some cow manure in November . Got some rain of late , thank goodness, which might have prompted the onset ?? Last week I gave them some Seasol just to be sure. Looking fairly healthy as far as I can tell, just not very tall.....that's all
Your tree is looking great btw. Any idea how old/ high it is ?
Cheers E.P.
I've had it for about 4 years, but it came from a nursery, so you can probably add a year or so onto that. This year was my second crop, but only just over 1Kg. It's about 2 meters high. I have 2 other fledgling trees as well, but they have a while to go yet. Probably not the best climate for coffee, your colder periods are probably better. Mt Tambourine would be a a better up this way, as I'm right on the bay. But I liked what came from it regardless.

It's funny you mention that , because I would have thought , the closer you are to the equator the better. I always thought coffee plants needed warmth / lots of sun ,and altitude. So personally I would have thought that you are in a better area.... But maybe the salty sea breeze is not exactly helping your cause ...

I don't know if anyone 's dealing with the same problem ?
But the three trees that I've got on the 'Western front' took a beating with the really hot days !
We were away for a few days , and there was nothing I could do , so now I've found that the young soft green tips got quite a bit of sunburn, and the leaves haves turned black & are shriveling up ! I hope it's not going to affect the growth of the tree as a whole.Because it's at the very top as well...
Looks like I've had only 15 flowers flowering so far, and some more to come in the next few weeks.
I think some of the beans-to-be got burned in the 'cradle' straight away, when it hit 42 degrees.
wow, looks like kitty jones is really going for it! she's going to have a pile of cherries to process in a year or two.
my two remaining trees (another one died, but i have three coming up) gave about 16kg of cherries.
for pulping this year i used a meat mincer with the mincing plates taken off. the beans squeeze out nicely without the cherries being beaten into small pieces, and i found it was easier to separate them from the pulp as they came out, rather than get a bucketful of masticated beans and pulp all mixed up, then have to sit down for hours and separate them by hand. i still did it by hand, but it seemed a bit less messy and a bit quicker to do it as they came out of the mincer. still, if only someone would get a small hand pulper on the market here, they would probably sell a few.

Good Afternoon All,
I have decided that I am going to commence growing my own Coffee Tree. I currently am having difficulty finding a nursery in Brisbane who is able to provided me with a healthy starter tree. Can anybody assist or advise me where the best place to source this tree would be?
Regards
Not sure where you are based but I bought a few from Nielsen's Native Nursery - Marine Aquarium - Coffee Shop which is near Loganholme. They were still small but healthy, and similar to ones I had got previously which provided a few kilo last year.
Probably worth phoning and checking thay have any before heading out there.

Thankyou.
I am based on the Northside of Brisbane.
Hi Nathan,
We bought 2 healthy coffee trees at the Nambour Garden Expo last July to plant in our garden at Morayfield. Birdwood Nurseries. We have a list for all Qld nurseries where you can buy such. We can tell you that Northside includes all Bunnings and Master stores. We have seen them at both. Redcliffe Garden Centre Clontarf, Theo's Garden Centre Kallangur to name 2. Also nurseries at Aspley and Carseldine. PM if you wish for addresses. Happy to help out.
