Ive never seen them in sticks. You might have to offer it in a sugar bowl. We dont even have white sugar sticks in the cafe.

Re: Best type of sugar for coffee

Guys I found some on the net.
Would you be interested in importing them?
          Dennis is an experienced importer.

What if I imported them for you all to share?
How much each would you expect to pay?
          How many would you want?

Edit: Is it possible to import sugar into Australia?

Hmmm, I was thinking of importing some beautiful hand-made coffee mills, until I got the quote from the shipping agent.

Dont see why it couldnt be imported as we import other foodstuffs - maybe importing sugar might be cheaper?! :-/

not sachets on offer ... but a superb sugar:

rich caramel result in a cupcake ...

as for coffee? Great extractions dont need sugar, surely?

Re: Best type of sugar for coffee

maybe this is something we could put to CSR head office as a niche market product for cafe

an e-mail with the request may just get noticed.

and as for your question Dennis...........................Andy??

TG any ideas of quantity needed to import at a reasonable rate ?

                Craig.

Tony, you are perfectly correct, but try telling that to the other half million for each of us snobs who disagree, cause they know no better and drink where sugar is needed to fix the shot~~~!!

Re: Best type of sugar for coffee

The alternative is as suggested to approach CSR to see if theyll add demerara to their stick range.

I checked Bundaberg but they dont produce demerara.

Craig the min. order is 50,000 sticks but shipping is free with that.
I havent investigated other import costs eg duty, agent fees etc.

Re: Best type of sugar for coffee

a commercial CSR box has 2000 sticks so 50000 25 boxs is not a huge amount for a supplier to hold
maybe one of our sponsors on site can check out the details as per how they are packaged and what quantities??
Some site importers would have a good idea of shipping costs and tax also.

                    Craig.

I have contated CSR to see if they are willing to supply the industry< I will wait and see .

I have had on-going (intermittent) discussions with CSR and others for nearly 12 months about having CoffeeSnob branded demerara sugar sticks. I nearly nailed it via a company in Melbourne a few months ago but the initial setup costs and minimum of two tonne of product made it a little tricky to launch at the time.

Maybe you should try the import route instead.
The mob I found are geared to go and as well as free shipping, two colour printing is free as well.

Doesnt really seem right to import sugar though, when we have so much of the stuff here. How about supporting our local farmers?

I agree with your sentiment Bill, though late last year we were up in far Nth Queensland and it was interesting to see that a lot of the sugar farms were being converted to more "eco-friendly" crops. It seems that following heavy rains, high quantities of fertilisers required for sugar production make their way into the Great Barrier reef. I guess most of our terrain is best-suited to growing lantana - I know its not a native of AU though reckon if I use a pressurised basket, could produce some crema. ;D

All said and done, Id like to see companies like CSR supporting the farmers - packaging products to reflect consumer demand would be one option how this could be achieved.
