The Coffee Emporium puts a "Packed" date on the beans they sell you.
One of the guys at work had some the other day and it rasied my suspicions.
I asked him about it and he told me that was the day they took it out of the glass storage bin behind the counter and put it in the bag for him. :
I have trained him a bit though and he did ask when it was roasted.
Which was supposedly a week earlier.
Storage conditions not being ideal would explain why it behaved like it was much older.
good luck with yr new venture - i know how much hard work & elbow grease is required! Ive been at wk till 11pm most nights during the week just cleaning and scrubbing everything to get my new joint presentable prior to opening
It went pretty smoothly, we werent overwhelmed by throngs of people like we prepared for. We had a couple complaints about "cold" coffee that had sat for 15 minutes in front of the customers before drinking. The positive comments far outweighed the negatives.
To help with consistency, we picked up an Eazy-Tamp, that way at least one variable is taken out of the equation.
We churned through just over a kilo of coffee on the first day. I reckon well do more once people catch on that were there. Had to roast four more batches in the "contraption" this evening. Hopefully soon I can roast at work in my 2kg roaster, whenever it gets here.
Its almost funny, the food was going out nearly as quickly as the coffee. Keeping the menu simple is the key.
BTW, where were all the snobs? I was chatting with one person in the afternoon for a good 15 minutes about the shop and coffee.
I think were onto something, it just needs to be refined a bit.
Congratulations, Nunu, and I wish you all the best of luck. It must be hard work, but exciting nonetheless. And seeing the takings grow would be satisfying.
