Out and about this morning I spotted a new cafe where an old car airconditioning workshop used to be a few blocks from home.
I hadnt noticed it before so assumed it was new.
A few upside down tables seemed starnge considering there appeared to be peopled seated nearby and drinking.
A while later when I had to go out again I decided to give it a go before attending to my errand.
I popped in and asked if they were open.
"Unfortunately no" they replied.
They open in two weeks time the niv=ce lady told me.
She asked me to wait and called a bloke, I assume hes the owner.
We had a quick chat. I asked about his coffee. Told him I roasted my own. He asked if it was a commercial venture and I said no, just for myself and friends.
He wanted to know if I was a local, which I affirmed.
Then the lady pushed him to make me a coffee. He warned me that he was still dialling in the grinder and that "the guy" would be back tomorrow.
I couldnt tell what the grinder was from where I was standung but the machine is a 3 group Wega.
I accepted for him to make me an espresso so that I could properly judge the coffee rather than my usual flat white.
The pour ran like a river in flood. I got a lot of blonde in my cup. Of course it was bitter.
He then made himself one and also pronounced it bitter. :
I told him he needed to grind a lot finer.
I dont know what his experience is.
I promised to go back when they open in 2 weeks as by that time he should have sorted out his grind and tuned the machine.
When I said I hadnt heard of Map coffee before they told me it was imported from Italy and well known in Melbourne.
What I want to know from Melbourne CSers is have you heard of it and what have you heard?
