    Re: Lavazza Blue

The Lavazza Blue machine continues to go strong. I was initially a bit puzzled at its popularity as I didnt rate the brew very highly, but on reflection I have realised that only a few staff have their own espresso machines at home and the rest are accustomed to just using Instant, supplemented by the occasional cafe cup. These folks are just not as fussy as the fanatics and see it as a step up from Instant. Interesting.

      Re: Lavazza Blue

We just got a lavazza blue pod machine at work (not my choice). The three espresso blends I have tried so far all taste odd to me - possible the "crema enhancement" mentioned above. I am quite sensitive to tasting things like that.
Does anyone know if alternative blends are available in compatible pods? Or where you can buy the blends (not in 100 pod packs)?

I also tried searching for this thread (pod, pods, capsule etc - not of them made it come up) and it didnt appear.

Theres a guy called "Jimmy" who does "pods". If you google both those things together youll find his website.

I dont know what it like and its probably rubbish, which you already know. It does give you an alternative though.

        Welcome to CS!

          Re: Lavazza Blue

A year or so down the track the usage on the machine has settled at about 90 pods a month which results in a slow build up in pods given the contract requirement to use 100/mth. Most coffee drinkers here are accustomed to their Instant and not discriminating at all. I have a little coffee-club going with my mates using a plunger or dripolator (depending on numbers) and prefer that to the pods. An espresso machine of any kind would not work here as some fool would stuff it up and I would be continually cleaning it as the yobbos would leave it in a discusting state. (they cant clean the sandwich maker or microwave so certainly wouldnt clean an espresso machine) I guess we can check it off as a failed experiment.

            Re: Lavazza Blue

We trialled one of these at work a couple of weeks ago, coffee was actually better than the superauto... the fact that the office lady who purchases the beans gets them at a supermarket certainly doesnt help

ive been tempted to suggest st ali or ordering CS beans but think they would baulk at the cost, im known as the snob of the office with roaster, grinder and stuff at home but know not to knock the office coffee, heaven forbid it messes it up for everyone else

might bide my time until people complain about it again then talk about CS - Andy will be back by then and we can order some beans

Boy, youve got a lot more patience that I do. I throw disdain on the cr*p from the office stupid-auto and stale beans at every opportunity. 8-)

Interestingly there are only two other regulars (and a couple of sort-ofs) who prefer my fresh home-roast through the Kyocera/Aeropress enough to make it, rather than just push a button.

                Re: Lavazza Blue

Ive mentioned before that at work they have a old Italian 2 group machine (hole cut in the bench, water drains straight through into a funnel into drainage) and a big old Bezzera grinder. Have also become known as the Snob of the place, and have a few people who I have offered my own beans to to try a cup here and regularly make one for them. Hey, weve got it, we should share it 8-).

One of the ladies, who previously bought supermarket beans for a little machine at home has now asked me if Ill sell her a kilo of my roasted beans each month. Another has now said shell stop at a specialty coffee purveyor which Ive given a wrap (mentioned in the best coffees in Qld thread) on her way home rather than go to Glorias or Maccas. That there are those who still insist on their Internation Roast only confirms what many others have said...some people just dont want to know, or are too bloody minded. Their loss, not ours!!

Im grateful we have such a machine here, it means all I have to worry about is remembering to bring beans in.

I can see a place for pods and pads in office environments because they are clean(ish) but most places will install a super auto instead.

At least in a superauto machine you can use good, fresh beans.

Most pod machines that I have seen will pull a whole cup of water through that little teaspoon of instant and grounds... **shudder**
The whole idea of nespresso is to not use instant coffee or grounds. Instead, readily extracted coffee is hermatically sealed in a foil lined capsule.
