  • Roast to order in Japan.

    Hi,

Recently I was on a holiday in Japan and discovered this roast to order shop at the Kuromon Market in Osaka. You got to choose your own beans and then they would be roasted them to order.

Thats one hell of a Corretto!

Theres at least one major coffee roaster in Sydney where you can do the same thing, though on a smaller scale, using a 600gm Green Bean Machine. I think they might actually lose money on the scheme but its a nice to have for the patrons.

While I was there I looked at their retail packs and it was sad to see there was at least a 3 month best before date on the packs instead of a roast date. Also printed on the pack was advice that once opened, the beans should be kept in either the fridge or freezer.

St Ali are about to do a similar thing. They just set up a Probat sample roaster. The fun part is, I think theyre going to let the customer do the roast - Well, at least stand there and watch them do it.

St Ali dont recommend putting your beans in the fridge or freezer forunately.
