  • Bubbly Macs

    Ive noticed a problem lately making my evening long macchiato.  After a couple of minutes I get big bubbles developing in the top of the drink.  Doesnt seem to happen with the cap I make the wife.  Flavour is fine just looks odd.
    My routine is pull the shots then texture milk and pour.  Milk is probably just overdone,I tend to use the first part of the milk for the cap (frothier) and the latter part for my mac.  I use a bottomless PF and pull the shot short for the cap and run mine to just blonde.
    I use the same for espresso and long blacks and no bubbles.

    I find using the naked makes it uber bubbly. In conjunction with super fresh coffee, it has the tendancy to make the crazy bubbles in the crema.

      That is telling you that you have not got every thing in balance...

      Grind / Tamp still needs to be worked on..

      That is why I wend from using a Naked to a standard ..... It was easer that trying to sort out where I was going wrong

          I guess a pic tells a 1000 words... But when I use a naked PF, I get interesting crema, but also some splattering (all be it fine) and end up having to clean little spits off my machine...

          On further review and discussions and some testing... When I got it right, the crema was great and no splatter.. Yes the crema also looked different... Maybe not bubbles... but defiantly different...

          However I was never consistent and when my wife made a coffee... Well, not always a great outcome..

          Thus teh Naked sits in view, but only comes out on special occasions..

            am, have a read thru some naked posts and theres a good one on homebarista about perfecting the naked extraction.
            naked handles are a FANTASTIC learning tool as far as my experience goes. spritzes, lop sided pours, channelling etc are much easier to find with a naked, and fair enough that you would want to go back to the spouts...
            ur coffee MAY just get better by trying different ways of getting consistently nice looking pours from the naked. BUT looks aint everything....

              I get the extra crema in the shot but that settles after a minute. Its more the bubblesa fter ive added the milk. The milk doesnt seem to be bubbly and it looks OK for a couple of minutes but afte standing the top of the coffee looks a bit sudsy.

                Im pretty sure this is the milk (not your technique the milk itself). This was happening with pura milk up here in brissy late last year (and the steamed milk was giving a slight aroma of old cold earl grey - hmmm weird).

                If you can give us a pic maybe I will be able to identify it as this or not.
