Re: CoffeeSnobs Articles Idea
AndyCJ, sounds like a great idea the only thing if it is for newbies then restricting the number of posts in this section is critical. If you have too many then people will have information overload.
What you need is a group of people to decide on which ones start off in this section and then CSs can nominate posts to be added/deleted to this group who have the ultimate say. I am willing to be part of that group to get the ball rolling (if this is what the CS community wants?)

Re: CoffeeSnobs Articles Idea
TG,
Good idea. I was just thinking something along the lines of the Home Barista "Best of Forums" page. Where there are several forum topic links with short descriptions for each one.
http://www.home-barista.com/faqs-and-favorites-digest.html
Would be a solid start, and not tooooo much work compared to a Wiki etc.
Agree/Disagree??

Re: CoffeeSnobs Articles Idea
At Andys discretion it would be neater to have a new section, as already suggested by someone, and give Admin rights to that section only, for the one or two people maintaining it.

Im also pretty sure thats what hell say; he said the same to me on the Home Truths thing, but dont count on a wiki.Originally posted by 21232F2727292E33400 link=1241140296/22#22 date=1241575163I think Andy will say "what a great idea, how about you run with it?"
As per ACogs point of the need to maintain, I tried to keep mine fairly generic with links to more in-depth threads and topics on CS.

Personally, I think its also a great idea, but theres a lot of work involved in it being maintained. I think it would work best as a one or two person job, collating informative posts into a blog or wiki.
Im sure no one here would mind their posts being re-printed elsewhere on the net as long as credit was given. Why not start a blog with informative articles in it, drawing from the wealth of info found here?
I think Andy has enough on his plate to not add this, particularly when this is a community with plenty of able people in it. Just check first regarding re-printing of CS content.

Re: CoffeeSnobs Articles Idea
all joking asside - I still think there are a lot of people here who write a lot of stuff.
I think that there should be some better way to get access to some of that stuff. (note - SOME of it)
Even in the thread about Home Truths - Luca started into more detail....
Think I may have a word with Andy - see what he reacons.

Quite often a CS member may be around the corner and many of us are only too willing to provide assistance..

Once again... Welcome.

Im quite happy to take some flak, everything Ive learned works for the franchise and all its done for me is increase my thirst for more information and expertise. Though aside from these posts, Ill likely be a lurker until I think Ive got something worth posting. :-X

Id like to think Im not newb enough to need a thread like that (been working as a barista for a few years with Gloria Jeans) but extra information is always handy.Originally posted by 735C5557407F535C5355575F575C46320 link=1241140296/5#5 date=1241146502Coffee Snobs Home Truths http://coffeesnobs.com.au/YaBB.pl?num=1224157582/42#42
Is a great start but who knows it is there ? Make it a sticky... But first time users or nubes will not read..
They just want a quick fix and post away...
Even when you do provide info, many never return (There OK or NOT) and thus your never sure that what you advised was of assistance....
Youre correct that many new people may want the quick fix, but some of us dont want to hold up a sign saying "Hi! I want to be spoon fed everything!"
When I signed up to the CS forum, the welcoming PM I received was a nice touch, perhaps Andy Freeman could add a link to the Home Truths in that?
Glad to see that your doing some reading and research.. It does make things easer for ALL.

I am glad some of what I said rang a bell with some one :Originally posted by 262B2826440 link=1241140296/14#14 date=1241177556Im with you AM, great post, its just how i feel today after a staff member quit on me this week.
People are too lazy to search, they want everything yesterday and think everything is so simple "whats the problem they say"
Just like with IT they think its all like a toaster from Hardly Norman.
But on the otherhand as Mal rightly says, people need to be encouraged and nurtured into the forum and it amazes me how many times i read a post where my answer would "use the search function" but users like Mal, TG and others too many to mention caugh up a wonderfull reply that includes a polite comment about using the search function as well next time.
Perhaps i just dont have the patience anymore :-/ but i am glad of those of you who do.
But back on topic.
Creating yet another function to do what is essentially already here just doesnt make sense, plus its too time consuming
My 2C
Mal
You will notice that many CS members will give a quick response and often then provide a link.. My self included... But at times, I may grit my teeth and up my dose of Zoloft...
However I do tend to sleep better, knowing I may have assisted / helped some poor bugger... Strange as it may seem, some even hang around and become productive members of CS...
So I guess that is what it is really all about...
Night Night... Double dose of Z coming up this evening :-[

Re: CoffeeSnobs Articles Idea
Interesting and humorousrantscomments... ;D
I guess all we can ever hope to do, is to help newbies find the information for themselves via one or both of the methods mentioned by AM. Maybe even to the extent of doing the first search for them just to demonstrate how easy it is.
If after this, they still cant find the answers theyre seeking, then often someone has already covered the topic in great detail on another website, such as Home Barista or Randys "Espresso! My Espresso!" just to name a couple of the better ones around. Anyway, you get the drift.... If after all of this, they still cant locate the answers theyre looking for, then we always do our best. One of the great things about the CoffeeSnobs Community I believe.
Most of us have been in a newbies shoes at one stage or another so we know what it feels like. Im really not into hand-holding as such but going that extra step to help someone seems to be something that most CSers dont mind doing and will keep on doing. Dont think there is anything to prevent us from keeping that tradition going.... Unless something better DOES come along
Mal.

Had enough IT issues lately to want to support any process that requires people to sit an Exam and get a licence B4 being allowed to buy a PC.. 8-)
