  • Brazil Alterosa RFA

Easy to roast, love it as an SO for milk-based drinks and want to order more. Great body, its my favourite morning SO thus far.

Im hoping youve got some stashed on a shelf somewhere Andy, and are willing to part with it...

I roasted some of this bean in my popper last weekend to try for the first time tomorrow. By the sounds of it, something to look forward to.

Assuming you roasted your own, to what depth did you roast it?

CS10. I have a note in my roasting book "re-order in bulk"! I take it into rolling second with visible smoke.

After roasting, the beans have a 2-tone look, a relatively even roast, smooth lovely looking beans. A 400g batch roasted to CS10 has an exit weight of 340g. (A CS9 level has exit weight of 360g.) Roasted in a Coretto.

      I use it from Day 3 post-roast.

        Thanks Intellidepth. Very helpful!

The roast i did (my first) was only about CS9 so Ill definitely go darker next roast. My hearing isnt good enough to hear FC very well, let alone SC. I might have to engage my wife as a listener so I can time when SC kicks in.

Ive had a couple of very varied day temps - 16.5*C still morning first roast, and a 23*C breezy day third roast, which varied the timing by three minutes, however reaching CS10 was the best indicator on both days, and didnt cause a large enough difference in espresso flavour for me to tell the difference.

Can you see inside your popper? (Sorry, I never tried poppers so I dont know!)

Get someone to knock you up a little headphone amp with an adjustable "Notch" filter aus_flynn.... That should make it easier for you 8-)

Cheers Mal. Another coffee gadget. SWMBO will be thrilled.

              A quick edit.

I cracked open the bag of second roast I did of this bean to check on Intellidepths advice on how to check the bean for a proper roast. I didnt need to crack any beans ....

the aroma that came from the bag. Yum.
