Re: Sydney Meetup / Coffee Crawl- Sat 25/07/09
Yep - the single origins disappeared on thursday morning round about the time the cleaners turned up
the good news is that as I was the one who lost them, Ill order the same from dennis to replace those he donated in time for the next meetup. Aaron and I are going to try to commit to organising these on a regular basis - more info soon to follow.
With Aaron making chocolate from scratch using GreenBay cocoa, Di Bartolis decaf under the microscope (alongside a couple of blends), grinder comparison (K10 won, KS was slow but nice grind, everyone preferred the M4 to the Mini (7/7)) there was a lot to talk about - including Mikes "All About Coffee" first edition (beautiful).
Interestingly, the Galatea got the love in preference to the Domobar Super. The K10 WBC Aaron lugged across certainly showed its true colours, producing gloopy pours and flavours the other grinders simply couldnt highlight or match. Mike brought a Trangia + Ibrik and brewed up a fine example of turkish coffee - (apparently you can grind fine enough on a Macap M4, but youll be cleaning it for weeks afterwards!), Ben brought clumping issues on his Mini (and a nylon brush) along with a thick skin and a sense of humour
, and the fact that I work just around the corner from Meccas roastery also led to a quick road-trip. Beautiful machines & probat roaster, sample roaster & a smaller one, plus a cupping table, but unfortunately Ive never had the good fortune to go inside.
Was really good to meet mike&TG again, and meet aaron, ben and leeham for the first time - and to put some faces/names to posts!
