  • Ethiopia Sidamo Guji

    This is one of my all time favourites which Ive been very keen to buy again. A bit of a love it or hate it bean ... and I love it.

    I know it was in the Aug 11 beanbay this week, but I was working, and the Sidamo Guji wasnt announced beforehand, so I missed out (would have bent over backwards to get to a computer if Id known).

    Are there any prospects of more coming?

    No.
    That was the last 120kg in existence... which is why I didnt announce it. ...and to make matters worse for you it was still there hours later.

      After my earlier post (wishing for more Sidamo Guji), fellow snob Ashleigh kindly sent me her remaining 1.7kg! Thats a lot to someone like me on his last 400g.  Not being one of those who love this bean, she was happy for it to go to a good home, and I was most grateful to be that good home. Thanks!

      I mention this as another example of the goodness of the Coffeesnobs community.

      It has also inspired me to occasionally scan the Wishing Well part of this site, in case someone out there is desperate for some beans that I could do without.

        Im with Oily on this one and ill sing the praise of the all might Guji all day long!

        Out of interest Oily?...where have you found it to be at its best in the roast process?

        I keep it fairly light so it still has some of those orange beans visible.

          The best results Ive had from Sidamo Guji were with FC around 13 or 14 minutes, ending the roast about 4 mins later, a little before when I would have expected second crack to start. Probably a minute before, based on the temps, but without reaching second crack its hard to be sure. This usually gives a light-ish colour, around CS 6-7.

          I prefer it from 2-7 days old, when it smells a wee bit sour out of the grinder. Other CS members prefer it after 7 days - or not at all!  Just goes to show how different our tastes are, so use my times as a suggestion only.

            Im actually pulling my roasts just after 1st crack to keep all that great orange aroma and flavor... i just can not get enough of this coffee.

            I find when roasted too dark it looses all its natural processed and ungraded value that makes it so unique.

            If i came across a 70kg bag of Guji i would buy it instantly!

              Im reaching the end of a bag and it has been sensational all the way through. Roasted as per Oilys method, just a little shy of 2nd crack (CS7-8) using a similar profile. The brew I made this morning, 14 days post-roast was outstanding. Such beautiful berry flavours with a very pleasant level of acidity to add further liveliness to the cup.

              Please do your best to get some more of this superb Ethiopian bean, Andy.
