Re: Budget Machines, are they really that bad?

I went from a 12 cup stainless steel stovetop espresso pot to the Silvia after 2 years and much deliberation. In the end I just couldnt see the point in buying an entry level machine.

Going back to my astronomy comparisons: many people starting out ask whether department store telescopes are okay for beginners. We usually try to steer them to a pair of binoculars which produce a good result and hardly sting the hip pocket. If the bug bites then they can make a decent step up and over the entry level scopes with less risk of wasting their dough.

Just goes to show we all take somewhat different paths.

Re: Budget Machines, are they really that bad?

Ive read all the posts and admit that I too started with a little Gaggia combo - wife and I wanted to know if it was the way we wanted to go. Did we want to continue to enjoy our favourite coffee shop ambience or sit at home? We made the mistake of buying supermarket shelf blends (beans) and over time, found a roaster etc. and then the bigger and better setup (from Coffeeco) - growing and learning.

The point? Growing with a new hobby / interest.

We have a 4wd club locally- not everyone carries the gear we do - why? Grow with your hobby / interest - learn without committing big $$$. How many sheds have unused camping / outdoor equipment etc etc

So called budget machines have their place - and some places are nice and secure!

Ahhh 4WD and Coffee.... could it get any better..... Cheap machines also have a place when you go camping as well.... Generator and Elcheapo..... Espresso!!!!! (if it gets damaged you havt risked thousands of $)

Youll find you get great interest if you take your coffee machine and skills with you if your in a group...people just cant seem to resist REAL coffee can they?
