Great investment Perth Matt. Roasting your own is great. Youll never look back - only wonder why you didnt do it sooner.

I still lug all my Corretto setup out every week. Its only the freezing nights in winter that get me wondering...

But why would you want to pay for roasting coffee if you can do it yourself at home!
Heres how I do it. Read further to know more:

I have found when I do green beans for a large group I steam them in butter water( not over cooking them you want them barley soft) then I drain them but keeping about 1 cup of the water then I add cranberries and sliced almonds to them toss together with 2 tbs of a (2 tbs) butter (1 1/2 tsp) garlic powder (1 tbs) ground black pepper mixture then replace the little bit of water and let them set with a lid on for 5 mins before serving.

    Hope this helps you.

They are pretty scary prices. It would be cheaper if Matt brought a 5kg Probat.

I would make up several blends.

Virgin blend. Each single origin roasted by beautiful virgin.

Billionaires club. A coffee only billionaires drink.

Not going to just market to rich people....

    Brazil Santos... $150 per kg.

    Ill have great deals too

Buy 10kgs of coffee get a free Synesso.

Buy 20kgs of coffee get a free Synesso and a barista for a month.

Seems like all the big chefs are heading to Dubai for that same reason $$

Ill come and roast for you. If youbuy 10kg of my sheik coffee. Ill even deliver it on my knees at that price. Might move to to dubai and under cut him and charge half price.

    AndyL,

For someone with some experience setting up and running a cafe, some roasting experience under their belt and a bit of capital behind them, it sounds like Dubai might be a good market, if what Perth Matt is telling us about the cost of roasted coffee there is true.

Plenty of ex-pats and money flushed arabs willing to part with their cash for some gourmet coffee.

Know anyone who fits that description?

    hahaha

you forgot to mention his mark up on green!!!!
He might as well charge 50cent to roast at those prices.

buy green for $10 a kg and sell at $130 a kg roasted and add $15 a kg for roasting. Something doesnt add up.

    Re: Coffee Roasting Prices

You can always buy a roaster and invest between $15,000 to $35,000 on a 5kg roaster, then install around $5000 to $20000, then rent, insurance, labour cost, purchasing of green, storage of green, cupping area, espresso machine, cups, sinks, hire staff, Tax and a few other things

    OR

    pay $12.00 a kg of min 5kgs

    OR

    buy RETAIL

    OR

    Buy home roaster.

What the guy is offering is not such a bad deal......

If all customers are like you Im better off selling ice to an eskimo :

    lol @ the Ashes!

    Like that means anything anymore!

Good buy on the Gene... now there is no need to annoy the low quality roaster and youll never have 5kgs of roasted coffee laying around.

    WIN WIN

Have you looked at subscriptions from places such as squaremile in the UK?

I believe you can get a monthly subscription and get freshly roasted sent out for a fairly reasonable cost.
...come on guys, I know the coffee is supposed to be great, but the Poms already have the WBC and the ASHES...surely thats enough!!
