    Re: Coffee stuff for Christmas

Darn, what else is there to get?
With so many visitors over Christmas, why do I alone make such good coffee!! Really, relatives are plumb lazy. What a let down. Should have tried one of them with dishwater - bet he would have drunk it.
Yippee, 361 days to Christmas. 361 days to quietly enjoy my ristrettos.
Fair dinkum, one person turned his nose up at my coffee. Said it was too strong and that one jar of Nescafe lasted him twelve months and he drank four mugs a day!! Honest!

      Re: Coffee stuff for Christmas

      Im hearing you Kentho,
The relations swarmed two days before the big day and left two days after, consuming everthing in their path. From tissues and toilet paper, to presents, food and my beans. I had to wait four days to get a decent dark roast into the grinder. ;DThey like a mild slimmer body flavour. The Northern river I had just roasted was fine for them. I was itching to get into the Espresso Perfetto from Alan Frew. Heathens would whip out their jar of dirt just to provoke me into making coffee.

Coffee gear for xmas, well that was Miss Silva and rocky, a month early. ;D I got some new cups, a chocolate duster and those templates for dusting smiley faces . I did quite well, thanks to the wife. ;D

        Re: Coffee stuff for Christmas

        Hi All

I got my whole kit and caboodle for Christmas really - Like Boris, all my stuff was early from mid October through to a couple of weeks ago.  I got Miss Silvia first and Im convinced my wife thinks Im having an affair . Then a month later got a Rocker Doser and the SS Base.
        What a beautiful setup  ;D

We had my folks and the wifes folks over on Christmas day so I set about roasting a batch of everything that I have so far.

We had some Yirg, Peru Kontiki, Kenyan AA, Harrar, Yellow Bourbon and some Brazillian Cerrado.  No matter what I tried - I could get anyone to take a fancy to espresso!  My Dad couldnt tell the difference between the 3 that he tried (mind you he has 3 sugars in every beverage)

Comes down to 3 things I guess, my roasting sucks, Im a shocking barrista or they have no taste for coffee (Im putting my money on the last as my Dad reckons International Roast is coffee!)

          Re: Coffee stuff for Christmas

          Mic,
          The SS base you got, is it worth the $150 or so (where from) ???? Ive got the plastic tamper and measuring spoon Rancilio supply, plus the smiley templates, but no where to put them within easy reach , {I use the spoon to grind a little fresh coffee, before filling the PF. The tamper is temporary till I can get something better. Did have a brass one lined up, but it didnt come to fruition. }
Im told one side is a conventional draw, the other a knock box? Is this correct, and if so, is the knock box side easy to clean? Do you bang the PF on the floor of the box or is there a dampner to absorb the impact?

I have a birthday coming up and that would be a superb gift idea to start leaving hints for ;D

          Cheers

            Re: Coffee stuff for Christmas

            I got a great knock-box from my in-laws.
Makes life easier than spooning it out of the PF or putting dents in the sink.

              Hi there,

Besides Rocky, a nice 600ml frothing Jug, and a thermometer that I bought about a month ago while had been using my housemates Sunbeam for months, I got Silvia and Bodum Santos just a few days before Christmas despite am not celebrating Christmas myself. Also got an extra (selfmade naked) PF and LM baskets on Christmas eve from an overnight shipping from coffeparts. Oh, Greg Pullman Tamper also arrived two days before Xmas.

                Hi Boris

One of the drawers in the SS base is a knock box - has a block of wood across the drawer and works pretty well.
All the other knick-knacks go into the other drawer (apart from the tamper coz that only fits if you wriggle it while opening the drawer)
Ive got it set up so the knock-box drawer is under the Rocky (makes cleaning easy - open drawer and sweep grounds off Rocky into the drawer using a pastry brush)

I think its worth $150 but I reckon you could get someone down to $130 if you tried.

                  Mick,

Where did you get yours from?
Ive been waiting for sienna coffee to get back to me with a possible new shipment but it doesnt look likely at present.

At this stage, I wouldnt mind paying $150 if someone actually had one to sell.

                    Re: Coffee stuff for Christmas

It was through the local Mocopan dealer. They had to get mine from Melbourne.

                      Boris,
I just took a few photos of my Ranchilio setup with the base. I also took one with the drawers open and showing detail with a tamper if you are interested. Dont have time to figure out how to post photos right now. PM me your email address and Ill email them to you (or anyone else interested) if you like.
                      Cheers,YT

On the Rocky and Silvis s/s base.
                        I have one in stock:
I had it to sell as a package with the Silvia and Rocky, however, I will sell it separately to a forum member.

                            Thanks folks,
When I get to see YKs photos, Ill try to convince my lovely wife that its essential to produce her hot chocolates. Being in Melbourne, its probably just as easy to get it from Mocopan or Alan.

                            Cheers,

                            Boris
