I am from Malaysia, and coffee there is prepared in much the same way.
Fried in a wok over open coals, with butter and sugar!
Taste wise its a completely different type of coffee alltogether.
I love to use the orange juice analogy..
Fresh orange juice made with sweet Navel oranges = (fresh beans/good technique) Espresso based drink.
Orange juice made with Valencia oranges, then sweetened = Vietnamese/Malaysian style coffee.
Orange Soda = Instant coffee
Many people swear by soft drinks (and instant coffee)
Arabica vs robusta. Sweet Navel vs Valencia.
Its a different animal alltogether.
Ill say none is the better. They are just different.
