    I am from Malaysia, and coffee there is prepared in much the same way.

    Fried in a wok over open coals, with butter and sugar!

    Taste wise its a completely different type of coffee alltogether.

    I love to use the orange juice analogy..

    Fresh orange juice made with sweet Navel oranges = (fresh beans/good technique) Espresso based drink.

    Orange juice made with Valencia oranges, then sweetened = Vietnamese/Malaysian style coffee.

    Orange Soda = Instant coffee



    Many people swear by soft drinks (and instant coffee)

    Arabica vs robusta. Sweet Navel vs Valencia.


    Its a different animal alltogether.


    Ill say none is the better. They are just different.

      I have just returned from Vietnam 2 days ago and loved the coffee there.
      After paying 10,000 dong (50 cents) per cup in Vietnam paying $4.00 back here will take a bit of getting used to again.
      I had both the hot and iced coffee with sweetened condensed milk and wondered if this originated from the war as ration packs had tubes of sweetened condensed milk or is it because dairy products are rare?
      The best coffee I found was from Cafe Mai, 96 Le Van Huu Street, Hai Ba Trung district Ha Noi. It is well worth a visit and picking up a few bags. I brought 3 small bags back and there was no problem with customs/quarantine.
      On my Malaysian airlines flight there was an article in the inflight magazine about Vietnamese weasel coffee that stated that the country only produces a small amount (750kg from memory) and that it is treated like gold and given as gifts to foreign dignitaries and between company executives, so I doubt the Weasle brand coffee sellers on the streets are selling the real thing.
