Re: Basket stuck! Emergency! :O
Its almost definitely the spring. They originally provided you with a ridged basket without the proper spring for it. Well I hope the ridgeless basket does the job, but dont forget my advice about removing the grouphandle straight after the shot is finished

Re: Basket stuck! Emergency! :O
Ah okay, thanks guys! The supplier actually were fantastic and called me up after i sent an email, and he explained about the spring actually. He said theyll send a new basket that didnt have an indentation round the outside (just below the rim), ie a flat walled basket and see how that goes! Maybe im guessing its to do with the spring, not 100% sure... but very thrilled bout that!
Cheers guys!

Well agree to disagree.Originally posted by 243E3A3839243C6F25570 link=1274655615/4#4 date=1274657464Yeah ive tried inserting the handle of a spoon to pry it out, knives... I can reach the edge of the basket so there is a lever method going on, but still doesnt budge...

Re: Basket stuck! Emergency! :O
I dont know about that TG. It may be possible that the basket is not a good fit but I do know:Originally posted by 4D716C777D7C6B7E767D190 link=1274655615/12#12 date=1274668719Flynn I think the problem is not that its not a good fit in the group handle
- not all baskets fit the same and some come with a spring designed to hold a particular basket.
- I had the same problem about baskets getting stuck with the Gaggia Baby. It didnt jam but it could be pretty hard to remove until you you got at it a certain way and then it came off easily.
simonsk8r: The spring is shown here (the first part shown at the top):

Also, get in the habit of removing the grouphandle/ portafilter from the grouphead as soon as the shot is poured. Mine usually got stuck if I left it in place.

Re: Basket stuck! Emergency! :O
Flynn I think the problem is not that its not a good fit in the group handle but that the internal diameter of the basket is too small for the shower screen and jams on there.

Re: Basket stuck! Emergency! :O
on the inside of the group handle there should be a wire, that sits mostly in a grove, that is the spring that holds the basket in place.

Re: Basket stuck! Emergency! :O
Did the new basket come with a spring? If so, use that spring instead of the Gaggia one which will secure it in the group handle better.
If the basket didnt come with a spring, see if you can get one from the place where you ordered the basket. Try Coffee Parts if they cant help.

Re: Basket stuck! Emergency! :O
Yeah... i just tried to put it in again but only lightly... and lo and behold it got stuck again. Could easily pull it out again as i didnt jam it in.
Yeah i see now there is a definite difference between the proper size basket and this one... Hmmmm... im going to have a word to the supplier who told me personally that yes it is compatible for my Gaggia... grrr lol.

Re: Basket stuck! Emergency! :O
Good to hear that you are back on track
Dont risk it by using it again without first inspecting and determining the difference of the rims on the good basket to the bad basket
The inside rim on the new basket may have a smaller diameter that has caused all your problems

Ah ok... no i dont have pliers like that... i just tried.... OH!!!!

After trying to knock it out, i put down my tool, accidently brushed it, and it just... FELL out!!! SOOOO stoked!!!!! yay! I think maybe its cos i turned off the machine and it cooled down a little after being pretty heated... Now im wondering whether i should try to use it again or not... :S
Thanks heaps for your advice KK, really appreciate it!

Re: Basket stuck! Emergency! :O
Only warm up the basket
This will expand it a little and may loosen it
Use a bowl of hot water and lift it up to submerge the basket
Do you have a pair of adjustable pliers as they would be perfect for this job

Hmmm... actually... ive been trying to cool it down so it shrinks (using frozen veggie bags :P), but wouldnt it be a better idea to heat the basket so it expands and thus it wont be stuck anymore? Hmmm... Am gonna try to warm up the machine now and see...

Re: Basket stuck! Emergency! :O
Can you use a lever to prize it off from up on the contact point and use the group head as the fulcrum
