Usually tell people that it might take a couple of years to begin to master the art of coffee.

I remember Justin Metcalf saying, in a master class, that the penny dropped, for him, at about year eleven.
    And the rest.....

In Japan, there is no way youd claim to be a Sushi chef with much less than 10 years experience...

I consumed my first cup at 5 and started playing with coffee myself when I was perhaps 8 years old and if I havent pulled a couple of million shots in a multitude of cafes and at events, Ill go he.

Dunno if I was once a barista, but I wouldnt call myself one now. I get coffee and I reckon I can pull a pretty fair shot as well. No way Id be able to handle the volume these days though

Spend a couple of hours pushing buttons, pulling a lever and crucifying milk to call yourself a barista? Yeah right... ;D

Real baristi have class, dignity, humility, speed and precision and can pull a bloody good shot and you dont get that in an hour or two, regardless of what the bit of paper says...

Rockstars dont rate for me either. They need to learn from sushi...

As for me, I continue to learn about coffee every single day.

    Chris

This sounds like the same bad course that I did.

Perhaps they didnt get the email .
        Im sure they got it!

Im really angry about this and I also felt sorry for the other students in the course who were given the wrong advice, shown the wrong methods with some inferior equipment from an instructor who couldnt free pour any latte art. Thats the main reason I did this course.

I want my money back! >

did he get a certificate? I can tell you as an active professional barista in sydneys CBD for the last 10 years that when i have interviewed hopeful baristas a certificate is not worth the paper its printed on.
          That was my point..

Barista ... IT etc lots of training and courses.. But not all teh same and for many... Give me years of experience and a passion over an Attendance record..

However in todays Can do attitude and on paper.. Lots of $$$ to be made.

Again... Contract and understanding the Terms and conditions of said training contract.
