Music to drink coffee by

Anyone have any suggestions for good compilations of music to drink coffee by or favourite artists that just put you in that chill out mood?

I have been doing some surfing on the web and there are some compilations in the US by unknown artists but wanted to find something local. Obviously there is the option of making my own (by legitimately backing up my own CDs ) but would like something I am able to give as an xmas gift.

I reckon any slow jazz with a sax and a beat would be fine. Another option would be some jazz guitar (an artist called Joe Fuentes comes to mind).

I can sit down with a coffee and chill out to some Iron Maiden, but thats just me.

Okay dont laugh..

the soundtrack to Curious George (the movie) by Jack Johnson and friends. My baby LOVES this CD as much as I do (or maybe I love it because she does) and I was just thinking how relaxing it was to listen to as I was having a coffee this afternoon.

Its our new latest thing I think... Curious George and a coffee.

If you read Crema magazine, they always have a page of cd reviews that are usually pretty suitable for listening whilst drinking coffee!

My own suggestion would be anything by Buena Vista Social Club. I also like Pete Murray and Coldplay.

Seeing as you havent really told us your preferred taste in music, its a bit hard to make suggestions.

I have also seen cd compilations that have been specifically put together for coffee drinking. They were done up in packaging that had the names of coffee drinks on them but I didnt see what sort of music they had on the cds. You could probably google them or pm me for where I saw them and you can check it out for yourself.

I would have to say, and I am totally unbiased in this, that you absolutely can not go past side two on vinyl, of Led Zeppelin Two, played preferably on a late seventies / early eighties Kenwood solid state amp, across a 500w per channel pa sound system (such as the one I have in my lounge room...), and, most notably, whilst listening to the track "Ramble On" - seems appropriate some how in the current context!

Personally Im not big on the "Chill Out" category of compilations. Proper chillout music is for when youre buzzed off your head coming down from a rave. Think KLFs Chill Out, or the early Back To Mine series (Nick Warren, Dave Seaman). But a bit far out for regular listening...

Im more familiar with slightly older stuff (90s mostly): Portishead, Massive Attack, Morcheeba, Nitin Sawhney, Tricky, Craig Armstrong, Beth Orton, DJ Shadow, William Orbit, Kruder & Dorfmeister, Mercury Rev. Any of those have excellent albums.

Then we get into the more obscure stuff... All India Radio, I:Cube, Ken Ishii, Mandalay, Mono, The Egg...

Of current stuff, Jose Gonzales is cool. And Im really liking Sufjan Stevens Illinoise at the moment. Emiliana Torrini is also excellent, plus Joanna Newsom.

For me it would have to be some Floyd (thats Pink Floyd) or the DVD of the Eagles Melbourne Concert

It all comes done to what you like.
