perhaps not my favourite but I used copious kgs of Brazil Pulped Natural as a base for my blends, a great bean at a great price to use as a canvas to which I added more exotic bean varieties

Happy New Year Greenman. I think ill add the pulped natural to my next order as i want to try my hand at blending.

My vote was for Peru, PNG Waghi and the El Salvador. Great beans at a great price.

Looks like the Peruvians may walk away with the trophy this year...

With a total of 121 votes so far its great to see this poll open a bit longer.  It was difficult to just select 3 - especially after looking at what Ive got in my coffee bean cellar today!    However, I went for Venezuela San Cristobal, Australia MTE Microlot and Haiti Grand Cru de Beaumont.  The San Cristobal was one of my first beans I successfully roasted.

What the list does show us though is what a great selection Andy has brought to us in the last year.  Thanks Andy!  Keep up the great work.  You have opened up a whole new world and set of experiences for myself and my caffeine fuelled friends.

MTE and San Cristobal were the real stand outs for me, plus one other that continues to be offered on beanbay and is always enjoyed in our household and by our customers...Andys Decaf WOW.

Ditto for me. The Kona was also amazing as espresso.

This year, for me the highlights were...

                      Venezuela San Cristobal
Because it was a very well rounded cup and great as a single origin

                      Ethiopian Harrar
Because i have an Ethiopian fettish

                      Yemen Bani Ismali
                      Goes without saying

                      The worste?
Was a bean i DID NOT BUY from coffeesnobs(good thing). It was an unidentified Ugandan unwashed robusta. Wont say where i got it but i would not try it again under any circumstances

They often get lost as the base bean for your blend, but in 2010 I thought the Brazils quality stood out relative to other years. Really gave my blends a lift this year, and one particular crop has been drunk only as SO - a first for me and Brazil.

Andy said "I would struggle to pick 3 I didnt like."

I expect the ones he didnt like wouldnt hit the deck.

It was the Kona for me. Used my last 200gms at Xmas. Would love some more.

                              Hint Hint.

Apart from that the Yemen was interesting - frustrating to roast.

And the least impressive - Blue Mountain - glad I tried it - not for me.

Re: What were your 3 favourite beanbay green beans in 2010?

Okay, I picked the Ethiopian Gambella Sundried, Ugandan Masaba AA and Kenya Kakamega AA. Ive really enjoyed these beans the most out of what Ive roasted this year.

But what is really sad is that I havent roasted nearly as many as I have purchased so far. The problem of being the only civilized person in this abode! Hopefully in the next few weeks Ill be able to get around to the other dozen or so beans that I havent roasted yet... Yemen, Ghimbi, Haiti, the Oz MTE Honey, Costa Rica, the Mexican, Nepal and the list goes on.... Time for me to start roasting at least 3-4 times a week I think, so many great beans - so little time!

Alas, with a list like this is that there are so many great coffees that (for what ever reason) wont make the top three. Ive really enjoyed a Sumatra Mandheling Gr1 2009, the Hawaii Kona and the Peru Ceja de Selva Estate to name a few. But for me this year was an African year - I really enjoyed the flavours I got from my attempts at roasting the three that I selected (with much anguish I might add). They really stood out to me.

Mind you, that may say something about my roasting abilities or lack thereof...

Big thanks to Andy for brining us so many top quality beans to make this choice so hard! And to SniffCoffee, thanks to making those of us who participate think about what we enjoyed the most - and curses to you for making us choose them! Great idea!! I look forward to doing the same in 12 months time
