    Re: Steam Arm Cleaning Brush

I have had mine for about a week now and just a few thoughts on it as a bit of kit.

My gut feel is that it would be fine for a 2 group and if you have a 2nd steam wand on your 3 group then its not a problem for that either.
Now proven at least on mine. The wand will happily reach the third group head for a clean but to reach the far side of the drip tray comfortably you need to use the second steam wand. It cleans the inside of the groups a lot quicker and easier than using cafetto and a conventional brush for an everyday clean and due to the steam finds bits that get missed by a brush alone.

It does get fairly hot after prolonged use so a litle care on the metal parts is essential like with the steam wands.

Works great when used in conjunction with a microfibre cloth for machine cleaning either as a quick clean through the day for a spot free finish or even an end of day clean. Simply the best thing ever for cleaning the wire drip tray on my Fioranzato which used to be a detergent wash and scrubbing brush clean and but this gets it cleaner with less work and no detergents for a daily clean.

On my stainless topped bench the brush had plenty of reach to get under the machine to enable a clean of that too.

I havent tried it on the little Pavoni at home yet but it comes supplied with plenty of adapters to suit a whole range of steam wand diameters so apart from having a lot less steam it would be fine on domestic machines. Also worth mentioning is the brush ends are replaceable and just unscrew (comes with a spare)

While it wont totally replace detergents or a bit of elbow grease for machine cleaning it will certainly cut back on their use. For the price a very worthwhile bit of kit

Apologies for the cruddy phone camera pics

I think milk gunge on a cloth is certainly a bug growing issue BTW as are possibly the bristles in the wand but a rinse in some soapy water at the end I guess will fix that.

OT a little a steam wand cleaning brush is a must have for those that dont own one already

andrea I would have hoped that by purging before use, wiping and then purging after use, that anything bacterial would be flushed out. Well Id really hope so anyway, otherwise EWWWW

Interesting health and safety thought but surely if you are worried about bugs being carried in steam then your steam wand needs a clean first regardless (not saying yours does either)
Not worried just made a comment based on what I have been told at the few lessons I have had.

If its being a bit too careful I stand corrected.

Im definitely looking at getting one as well, I hate the thought of anything Ive missed with just a cloth so this will be perfect, just waiting for the machine to go with it

Is there no concern about cross contamination?  That is, using a steam arm that is used mostly for milk?

Got one of these coming later in the week so I will give it a good play on a few of my different machines and see how it goes.

Just a query as I have been told not to use the same cloth I use with my steam arm, as the one I use on my shower screen / group head.

    Please elaborate.
Me too. I do a chemical clean every 3 weeks or 1kg of coffee, which leaves the GH and showerscreen spotless.

In between, I do a daily water backflush, and when cooled down I wipe down the machine with a special grade microfibre cloth for stainless steel and give the GH a clean with a pallo brush and a quick wipe with a moist microfibre cloth.

Now Im sure this steam gadget may do a better job and is non abrasive and given not too expensive probably a worthwhile purchase, just pointing out good results can be achieved without it.

If it came with an extension lead long enough, your espresso machine could possibly clean the engine bay of a car.  Imagine that!
"Look dear, What a pretty new steam cleaning device. We can mount it on a trolley and you can use it to steam clean all the nasties away in the house. It is nice and shiny and can even be used to make a cup of coffee. How can we not buy it? I am only thinking of you my sweet." ;D ;D

Must get around to getting one for a multitude of uses around home and the coffee machines.

Anticipate that when it arrives Mrs MeanzBeanz will roll her eyes and say, "more coffee stuff?"
If your profile pic is accurate she is just as likely to roll her eyes and complain about your R/C heli addiction too  Should do a good job of degunging parts if your still flying nitro ones.

    "more coffee stuff?" :
To be honest, I see it as a bit of a gimmick, but if you can create a need....

I use microfibre cloth and some steam from my machine. A rinse with a blind is more often than not fine for the group and if done frequently, pretty much makes a brush redundant.

    Nevertheless, to each, his own

TGs review and the current $60.00 special deal plus the 100G OF E61 PREMIUM ESPRESSO CLEANER convinced me and an order has been placed.
