I sometimes use bi-carb soda powder. I think its ok with moderately soft water here in Sydney, if used frequently such as once a week.

White vinegar can be used to descale possibly once a month depending on water hardness and use rate.

    What do others use?

I used to get my back flush tablets for my Brevillle BES860 Fresca from Harvey N. or Radio R. But @ $20.00 for a 500g container of Premium Espresso Machine Back Flush Powder from any of the CS sponsors you just cant go wrong, and will last you ages.

do you mean the cheap and nasty ones that will possibly ruin your machine as they were not designed to use in the machine you have?

or those cheap and really good ones that the seller told you are so good and just perfect for every machine made, they will work so well and improve the quality of the shots to "god shots" and make the machine last a lifetime?

i am hoping you can see what i am meaning and buy the right cleaning product for the right machine...

        welcome to CS

OR do you mean the ones made by a manufacturer on the other side of the world that doesnt have a clue what the local water may leave in your machine?

In the scheme of things how much will you save by skimping on this type of thing.

And 1kg is relatively cheaper if you are trying to save money in the long term.

In my line of work I see people spend thousands, and I mean tens of thousands on an awesome motorcycle....

then they try and save 30 bucks on tyres :-?

the great old forum catch.... YMMV ;D

                  Re: cheap cleaning tablets

I am surprised about some of the replies. The point is that as often in life there are cheaper products which do exactly the same as expensive brand names. I would like to find out if there are some cheaper cleaning tablets which do exactly the same as the 8 for $20 recommended by the manufacturer. I am happy for people who like to spend more and buy the brand names, but if you can safe some money I do not see the reason why not. Provided it is the same quality.
