Re: Coffee production under threat from global warming
Heres one from those famous members of the "climate change conspiracy", NASA, for those living in hope of present events being a temporary aberration.

Re: Coffee production under threat from global warming
Im only a lowly science teacher, but the current issues they are having are caused by the same ocean currents as our floods etc. at the moment. It will pass, and well be back in drought and theyll be growing coffee again ;D

Global warming is only going to make my Sydney plantation easier to manage.
Im already contemplating doubling the size to take advantage of the increased demand.

Morning Gary,Originally posted by 39232E2F3D2B3339394A0 link=1300079851/2#2 date=1300109378Enjoy the cheap prices while you can people because its not going to last.
While I agree that we are seeing a short term rise in prices, over the next few years we will also see growers recognise there is money to be made in this crop which will result in massive new plantings, this of course will ultimately result in an oversupply/glut of quality coffee accompanied by lower prices.
Its called market cycle, weve seen prices spike above current levels in the past (see attached graph) http://www.tradingeconomics.com/Economics/Commodities.aspx?Symbol=KC1 in the mid 70s, late 80s and the late 90s, as sure as night follows day we will see them drop back to or below the median in the not too distant future.

Re: Coffee production under threat from global warming
Yes it is quite serious, and its getting worse and were not sure if it will get any better.
Were getting inferior quality as well as increasing prices due to increasing popularity in coffee consumption from India, China etc. not to mention encroaching population pressure.
Enjoy the cheap prices while you can people because its not going to last.
