    Re: Perth, WA

enjoyed a great triangular cupping session today, some really exceptional coffee from Market Lane and Seven Seeds, the crew were pretty spot-on with choosing the odd one out, thanks once again Jono for giving all of us coffee freaks somewhere to meet and mix with like-minded obsessives, cranked out a couple of short machs as soon as I got home

        Re: Perth, WA

I have been watching this thread with great interest for some time, and I should (hopefully!!) be able to attend one in 2 weeks if its going to be on.

Please excuse my lack of knowledge, but just wondering, what does this cupping actually involve? How does it work and what would I need to bring?

        Cheers

cupping is a method of assessing coffee flavours and attributes in a controlled setting. just come along and taste some great coffee in a relaxed atmosphere, no need to bring anything apart from YOU

That sounds like fun, sure hope nothing changes and I can make it, would love to give it a go.

How is the coffee made, espresso?

            Cheers

not espresso--the traditional cupping method is used, 10g ground coffee with hot water added and left to steep for four minutes, then the crust is broken for the wet aroma and a few minutes later slurping from a spoon to aspirate the coffee onto ones palate to try and discern the flavour attributes of the coffees on offer, its a great way to develop your palate and discover all of the amazing flavours in the humble little coffee seed hope to see you there

                    Re: Perth, WA

Hey everyone, cupping is on as usual this week (Wed 1pm). Just a heads-up, I may be changing the thread for the cupping sessions because Dimattina WA will soon become an official sponsor of coffeesnobs.com Look forward to seeing you all on Wednesday.

Let me know if you guys would prefer to do more of the triangulations or the regular sessions (or alternating?) I enjoy both so Im happy either way.

P.S McCartan, Alex is fixed and ready to go home whenever The guys told me it was just programmed wrong so it was about 5 degrees hotter than it thought it was.

P.P.S Greenman, Joe is digging out the last of the green Guatemalan for you if you want to do a swap for the Yirg and then blend?

Thanks Jono, I should be there this week. Im happy to let more educated minds make the decision on triangulations versus regular sessions. Im happy either way and am just looking forward to learning and interacting with fellow coffee drinkers.

Lets alternate between the triangulations (i assume its the whole tasting/smelling thing) and the regular cupping.

                              Hi Jono,
I have intended to come by and visit Dimattina when I can squeeze it in between work trips up to Osborne Park. I dont know that I can come today or even how you guys work your tasting sessions: would I be welcome to join if I can make it? Shall I bring anything? Samples of what Ive been roasting (such as there are)?

                              David
