  • Site Sponsor Discounts

Hi folks, has anyone ever thought that it would be a great idea for the site sponsors to offer members a members discount on goods bought, in the form of coupon codes? :-?

    Re: Site Sponsor Discounts

In general your coupon code is your user name, and the discount usually varies between a cost and great service.

I use my coupon code to have interesting conversations whenever I visit a sponsor. ;D

Google could be a problem there - coupon codes have a way of spreading to ozbargain etc. Maybe if you have a specific purchase in mind, you could PM (Message) the suppliers and ask for a CS discount?

Not to rain on the parade but in general, members of CS are offered some really great deals ie they are already at "Site Sponsor Discount" level.

It can be difficult to secure a discount on top of a discount

hmm, the discount codes need not be published for all to see, so the spider bots and the like wont pick them up for all and sundry to see, works well on the flashlight forums...

CS is about personalised service in my opinion.

You choose the right gear by entering into discussions with your sponsor and I doubt much (if any) gear goes to CSers at RRP. One of our roles is to help you with factsand educated opinion rather than the misinformation which proliferates on the web in formus and elsewhere.

A discounted item which is not right for you is not a good buy.

For this reason, you wont see discount codes from this sponsor. You will however find CS pricing on the CS member page of our website.

            Cheers

            Chris

Appreciate the sentiment very much Lumenary, but Im pretty happy with how things turn out when I deal with Andy, Attilio and other sponsors directly. Not always about $$ price (though that has been good too), but have had some excellent after-sales service recently (thanks Attilio).

I have dropped the fact Im a "CSer" in when talking to sponsors not so they give my any special treatment, but just so they understand where Im coming from. So far all sponsors Ive dealt with have either given me a discount anyway when I didnt ask for it; or given me an extra level of trust / service (such as special delivery options, chasing wholesalers, etc). I think the unwritten coupon is out there already

pretty much, the lack of enthusiasm by csrs leaves me flogging a dead horse, i can better spend my time clearly getting better prices overseas...

So youd prefer a coupon and a completely anonymous buying experience? No support to ensure you weed out the chaff? No problem.  Will set up a shop and your personal coupon code can be AOB  :

Your idea may have merit but it is not a new idea and if you do a Quick Search on discount voucher you will find it has been suggested or applied before.

As mentioned above, its usually about negotiation and you might end up with a better price than a stated discount offers. Threatening to take your money elsewhere because no one is acclaiming your idea does not help.

Theres more than one way to flog a dead horse... I would have thought the posts by Talk_Coffee and Iaindb would have covered the issue, making a coupon concept irrelevant:
