  • Is this ebay deal a scam

Just saw a guy selling a Silvia V3 for $310 with free postage on ebay, from the way he is advertising it reads that it is coffee-a-roma selling this machine, seems very odd when coffee-a-roma sells their Silvia on ebay $749.
I cant post the link to the ebay sale, but it will not be hard to find, the sellers name is orrishvbnk, he has no previous sales and only joined up ebay today the 10th June.
I wonder if this is coffee-a-roma using a different name, as I said all seems very odd, if this is coffee-a-roma and this is a real sale than I will take 1 even 2 lol. I have sent coffee-a-rome an email letting them know about the ebay seller and that they may want to investigate into this guy.
The reason for posting here as well as emailing coffee-a-rome is because it is a long weekend and they may not get this email until Tuesday, and I thought maybe someone here may know if this deal is real or fake.

    cheers
    Tony

When surfing the internet: if a deal sounds too good to be true, it usually is!

Re: Is this ebay deal a scam

I bought mine from Coffee-A-Roma. To the best of my knowledge, all machines available for bidding are brand new. For sure, I say avoid them and play safe.

On a separate issue, someone hi jacked the photo of my Sunbeam EM6910 group seal from the $500-$1500 machine thread on this forum to use as a photo display on Ebay to try and sell EM6910 group seals.

Tony - the guy is no longer a registered user. I just went to his "My World" page and it is printed "No Longer A Registered User". So it was quite obviously a scam.

I have been caught with ebay before with some dewalt power tools, guy went bust, took my money and I never saw the tools, paypal finaly got me my money back but it was a long process.

I just didnt want anyone else getting caught from a scam, the big problem as I see it is that this user, orrishvbnk, copied text and pictures straight from the coffee-a-roma ebay site, as well as trying to get us to believe that he was selling on behalf of coffee-a-roma by using their name.

I am an electrician and would have a fit if someone tried to scam money from people using my name, it has to be illegal surely, I guess the hard thing though is catching them.

It will be interesting to see if coffee-a-roma had something to do with the seller doing a runner.

No one buys a newly manufactured silvia for anywhere near that price ex factory in Milano so never mind anyone retailing one for that price.

It also I think shows a pretty ignorant, inexperienced scammer. The price is so ridiculous its no wonder he/she was found out so quickly. In addition it shows a lack of understanding of the market, as a great many silvias and rockys are sold at higher than rock bottom box price hecause many clients want to be shown how to use the equipment and have you set it up in the first place.

Or if you were a conspiracy theorist, you might think the anonymous scammer did it to try to generate just this type of flurry in the forums, which would lead to........?????

Re: Is this ebay deal a scam

Ebay seems to have taken it down as it now comes up with "Sorry, this store does not exist and "item 170858066877 is no longer available.

The old story is  - if it seem too good to be true it probably is. Note that the seller had no previous sales and no rating so there was no ebay/paypal insurance.

Im pretty sure this is against ebay rules. You might want to think about contacting ebay and/or the seller to complain. I dont know the exact process but it should be easy to find. Sadly this is not uncommon on ebay or the net in general. You can thank google in part.

A few months back, someone advertised several New Silvias for $110 US each. ( 110 v, USA spec) ...with FREE world wide freight ! ;D ;D ;D
Obviously a scam, but i couldnt resist a try for $100 Au. ! ( safe with paypal order ? )
Needless to say, nothing came in the post and my money was refunded rapidly as Ebay killed the add very quickly !

Once you post anything on a public forum or web page, you cannot really complain if someone looks at it, reads it, or copies it, etc .
It may be illegal, or against forum etiquette, etc,..but this is the real world , and the web is effectively a public space.!

My rule of thumb all my life has been "If it looks too good to be true then it almost certainly is".
The follow-up to that is due diligence is always rewarded.
I always think of the Storm Financial collapse in this regard.

Many years ago I had an ebay seller link to my image of a product.

The fix then wasnt to tell ebay about it but to change my image to say IM A FILTHY SCAMMER (or errr... similar) so that their ad showed that instead for the life cycle of the ebay ad.
                      ;D

...so if they have linked to the CS hosting of the image let me know. We can fix em good!

I was somewhat flumoxed in the beginning they simply copied and posted the image from this forum (complete with the date i put on the image :) for their own gain and profit.

But then i thought about other cases whereupon images of people and branding ( no patent) were used in some other instances which is more disturbing, and it makes mine trivial in comparison.

Am still waiting for Ebay to contact me, in the meantime, the seller has done the disappearing trick, otherwise i would have taken your tip Andy.
I just hope the buyers were happy with their purchases.

Looking at Ebays rules and policies, it does not seem to cover anything about regulations of images to use for selling.

being a seller and buyer on ebay - often the caveat is always..if its too good to be true.. more often than not it is.

I hope that nobody got scammed by the guy!

                            Cheers
