  • Suddenly getting wet pucks?

    Hi guys!

    I am concerned... I am getting wet pucks from my double basket. Honestly, nothing changed. One week ago I didn't have this situation.

    Config: EM6910, 21g grams... puring in 25 secs.

    5 cent test gives OK!

    Ideas?

    Have you changed the grinder settings. I find that I have to adjust the grinder about once a week as the beans age. Many things affect the beans Humidity, temperature and changes to the bean as they age after roasting.

        Does it still taste ok?? If so, then don't worry - I have been pulling some really nice shots with pretty sloppy pucks lately. You really don't get much useful info from the puck compared with knowing how to adjust dose and grind to get the taste you like.

          I agree with Pete39 to a point. A wet puck is not the end of good coffee. I get them as well. There are a few other posts on this (search for them in the search function or on Google).

            Well, yeah, still great! But it first I thought it was underdosage, but 5 cent test gave OK.

            I adjusted the grind one setting coarser and got the regular normal puck... Looks like it was just that little bit finner.

              The beans that you were getting a wet puck from, are they the beans that were working fine for you the week before? How old are your beans?

                Hi Chris, I would say yes.. they were fine. The bag I am using is today is almost two weeks old. It was Friday the 5th when I bought it and I recall it was roasted a couple of days ago.

                Would that require a coarser grind?

                  usually you need to make the grind a bit finer as they age - also grind often needs to be a bit more coarse in the morning and a bit more fine as the day gets progressively warmer

                      I've found this happening to my pucks occasionally but am not too concerned about it.
                      In my case I've noticed it happened when a batch of beans I roasted were a bit over roasted and it became slightly more evident as each day passed. The next batch of beans were roasted much lighter & the wet pucks just stopped.
                      The grinds from the darker roast, seemed more dense probably more moisture and or oil, the grinds from the lighter roast seemed lighter & fluffier which also made much more mess around the grinder.
                      This could be one of the many factors contributing to wet puck syndrome.
