Hi everyone I thought I would add my piece on the WEMO switch.
I have been using one to power up my Profitech Pro 500 both on a schedule and remotely as required on the way home. The remote access gave me a lot of issues and was patchy at best. I had a bit of a dig and found my firewall was blocking the remote access for the WEMO which explained the patchy remote access, but solid wifi performance. I manually opened the ports which were being blocked and the WEMO has been flawless since. The only explanation for this is the UPNP is not performing effectively for all router firewalls which explains the mixed results amongst users.
My my fix in the end was opening the following ports:
TCP/UDP - 3478
TCP - 8080
TCP - 8443
I hope this helps as when it's working it is a fantastic device.

I tried this twice a couple of months ago but didn't work so tried again with deleting the wemo app and then installing it again.Originally posted by readeral View PostOh gee only 3-4 minutes... I'd be pulling it out of the wall and doing a complete reset of some sort I reckon. Maybe google how to do that?
Now it works great, it updates fine and works perfectly.

I've allocated mine it's own specific IP on my network just to make sure I don't have any internal network issues, and yeah, at the mercy of my provider for the Belkin server authentication stuff.

I had issues with my wemo as well I kinda tracked it down to being a problem with my internet connection. Even when using the wemo on your own network it seems to be contacting belkin servers (I believe updating on its status and the like) well with my spotty internet it caused problems it would drop connections have packet loss and the like and it gave me no end of troubles it wouldn't connect when I was out, sometimes wouldn't click on when I was around, would freeze up and disconnect. Updating would fail regularly as well.
I've no idea why belkin didn't make it a bit more robust in this area but I eventually gave up and it's been collecting dust ever since.

Jeepers, I've been running Wemo switches for a few years now and haven't ever had an issue with them.
I've got one on the Coffee machine of course, but also have the garden lights and fish tank on Wemo's.
My experience has been solid.

When im driving home from work I get into coverage and go to use the wemo so I can turn my machine on and it takes for ever.Originally posted by Magic_Matt View PostI have one of the original WeMo switches, bought using frequent flyer points ages ago and mothballed until now.
Geez, what a frustrating device! Took three goes to set up and get the app working and detecting the switch, uninstalling the app and resetting the switch each time. Finally got it working long enough to set up a rule switching it on each morning, which has worked since.
Trying to use it remotely for the first time today; switch not detected. Got home and found it still connected to my home wifi; switched on manually and now it's working happily (phone not connected to wifi). So the only time it's not working is when I actually need it to. [emoji19]
Reminds me of a Douglas Adams quote; "We are stuck with technology when what we really want is just stuff that works."
Then I tried to update it and to know avail.
It works after about 29 try's, but I soon forget about while drinking my coffee until next time.

That thread confirmed what I already thought. I've never used IFTTT. Might have to investigate.Originally posted by readeral View PostI reckon you can probably do it all from the one app. I wouldn't see why not.
EDIT:
Alas officially it appears not.

You can use the IFTTT 'Do' app to control any WeMo device though - so easily worked around.

When I was using the Arlecs I was able to operate two switches in separate houses because there was more than one app that worked with the Arlecs. Now I'm using the wemo in one house but was wondering whether I can operate another one in another house. Any suggestions?
