if you can live with a manual grinder for a while its doable. then the manual becomes your travel grinder later on.

I've noticed quite a lot of good specials on the Silvia in the last few months, wonder if there's a V4 coming soon... Probably just xmas sales though I guess.

Considered purchasing off these guys (coffeeitalia) a while back. They had an Isomac Tea with cool touch extremely cheap. Was a bit suss on their dodgy looking website but, and that it wasn't labelled 'Due' so assumed a grey import.

The pricing on the Isomac Tea has got me thinking about a post christmas present.

        Too good to be true??

Coffeeitalia AU no longer operated from Australia

I was the manager of Coffeeitalia AU for 5 years but mid way through this year made the decision to withdraw from the group. I am only responding to this thread now because Coffeeitalia AU is now administered from Spain/Italy and all products are now shipped from Italy. I would advise anyone to buy from Coffeeitalia AU with great caution. The Pitt Street address on their website is a carpark with maybe some virtual offices above it. Greg Miller

I have been browsing these forums for quite a while and have settled on ordering a Gaggia classic. I know coffeeitalia is an online company, although with no dealers close to me anyway the ability to buy local isn't a huge drawcard.

I am seeking of any experience others have had with this company. Good or bad.

            Thanks

            Jason

Interesting post from the horses mouth Greg.

I assume they have gone for this model to avoid paying the GST and import duties by sending single items out of Italy direct?

Coffeeitalia AU no longer operated from Australia

                Hi Andy,
We withdrew from Coffeeitalia and they then decided to try the current arrangement. Not sure if this is the best place for any discussion on why we withdrew from Coffeeitalia though. Although we are continuing to service our previous customers we are not offering any assistance to customers of Coffeeitalia after the date we dis associated ourselves from them. I would imagine Coffeeitalia has arrangements in place but reading European forums on their after sales service would certainly cause me to be wary.

It will be interesting to see just how many Australian businesses are forced into this model.

You use a logistics company out of Italy (or wherever) and drop ship out of Italy. The buyer receives Italian configured machinery, pays all shipping, duties, any costs added by the freight forwarders, GST on the lot and the parts only warranty lies in Italy- so effectively doesn't exist.

It's a really compelling argument to move boxes with all care but no responsibility. Everybody wins- except the Australian economy and those who need any form of government support I guess. If/when something goes pop, the whole equation frequently changes dramatically and wins can too easily become losses.

                  Interesting times....

I was advised after contacting them the machine is configured for Australia with an Australian socket/plug. Although I have seen some advertised with a Euro socket and requires adaptors.

At the end of the day if the prices are similar / only slightly higher than 2nd hand equipment the warranty argument is irrelevant

I know this sort of thing happens but it is not what is happening here. I wasn't going to register with the updates but the discussion sort of demanded a response. A downside for us already is we have started receiving requests to match the Coffeeitalia prices. No one ever says we don't want a warranty or any aftersales support...and if it arrives damaged we don't mind...

Fully agree. If people want a "full" warranty or after sales service it would be justified that is inclusive in the price, the consumer would then be able to factor in what that is worth to them.

My previous comment was more referring to comparing the price of a 2nd hand machine and new machine with little to no warranty or service.

The confusing part is identifying when these warranty issues may exist as online purchases vary greatly in terms of service. Merely judging from the quality of a website is difficult as I have had varying experiences with both situations.

In most cases, this is all that is happening with these companies. They then state that the machine is "configured for Australia". A read here will illustrate this. Our machine had live terminals within 2mm of the metal case. One small push and the whole case may have gone live. Would you have been happy with a plug change?

Our experience is that far too many expect all of the above with a full warranty and aftersales service, but a match or better on grey import prices.

Unfortunately that may be the case, hopefully you still make money when they need repairs and want their machine fixed in a reasonable time frame.

....or we may suggest they purchase an English to Italian phrase book...It will depend on the day and how busy we are!

Couldn't agree more with Talk Coffee. We've just received an email from someone who has bought a machine from Coffeeitalia and it doesn't work on arrival. They now have a major headache and no caffine to soothe it.
