  • Great Coffee Disasters!!!

This happened to me a few years ago, not long before I got the Gaggia.

We were going on a picnic or something and decided that we would make some coffee in the mocha pot to take cold the next day to make iced coffee drinks etc.

OG got it all ready and put it on the stove telling me too turn it on when I got home from work. Which I did. Only thing is, he didnt screw the pot together properly [smiley=shocked.gif]

So I was sitting watching tv, waiting for it all to be finished and next thing...

    BANG...CRASH...

I ran into the kitchen to be met with coffee everywhere, a hole in the ceiling, the ceiling exhaust fan dangling and did I mention coffee everywhere!!!!

The kitchen was completely covered in coffee grounds.

What came out of my mouth cannot be repeated [smiley=lipsrsealed.gif]

I mopped up what I could off the floor and decided to leave the rest to tackle the next day and went to bed, which was the right thing to do because when we got home all I had to do was vacumm the dried grounds off ceiling, the cupboard doors, the walls and glue gun the extraction fan back together.

I also then had to scrub the walls and call in the painter to repaint the whole kitchen as there were coffee stains everywhere ;D

That is the worst coffee disaster we have had - there have been others.

My worst coffee disaster was drinking International Roast.

Once, when I was working for, how shall we say... a particularly retentive employer, I inadvertently left some ground roast dandelion in the pf of the four group La Chimbali coffee machine, over the weekend in which we were closed...

Needless to say we always left the machine on, and by Monday morning the whole lot had turned to glue, and the pf had become fastened to the group head of the machine.

To say that my then boss was not a happy camper is an understatement

Hhhhmmm...My greatest coffee disaster. That would be when the 10mm waterline to my La Cimbali M28 ruptured in the middle of the night. The end result was the destruction of 2 walls and the kitchen floor (including the sub-floor) as well as about $2,000 of personal property in the kitchen and basement.

or how about the time when I helped our then coffee supplier set up half a dz espresso machines at the harvest picnic, in an area without a water or electricity supply, and the extensive water lines between machines, which were made of plastic, kept exploding, because they couldnt keep up with the pace!

Ive also been busted by customs going into New Zealand, and then coming home again with roasted coffee in my bags.

Fortunately thye customs people have a sense of humour.

Not sure if I would get away with it now though ;D

Ive had roasted coffee from Hawaii (declared) and customs didnt care at all.

I thought of getting some green Kona, but decided not to as Id either have to lie and hope I didnt get caught or just meekly give it up when I came home.

We just forgot it was in our luggage. When the customs officer opened OGs bag at christchurch airport the smell of coffee just wafted out ;D She laughed at us and told us that she hadnt had her morning coffee yet soi she now had to go off and get one ;D

Likiewise at sydney airport. The customs officer just laughed at us. I think he thought we were a bit wierd bringing in coffee from New Zealand.
