Espresso Wow is a great blend and for the short time I've been trolling these boards I've never seen a bad word spoken about it. Deffinately worth having a crack! Was tge first coffee I ever got from CS. That other jamacian blue you mentioned, was that the real deal or just a blend branded with the name? Apparently the real deal is an amazing coffee but you'd want a great coffee for the price. I'll smash my piggy bank one day and get some from CS...one roast you don't want to stuff up!

I ordered the roasted sample pack and I got India Elephant Hills, Brazil Premium Bourbon, PNG Kone Ka Estate and Samantran Mandheling Select.Originally posted by dan77 View PostIndia Elephant Hills Peaberry is fantastic in a long black especially from an aeropress. Very complex and yet subtle flavours. Great spicy and fruity notes from what i can remember. I had it a week or so at work and i just remember that it was outstanding. Next bag i open in a few days will be that again!
I first tried India Elephant Hills and you were right, this coffee bean has a great characteristic for a black coffee. It's well balanced and not bitter or sour. It didn't become my favourite black coffee but it's one of the best single origin coffee bean I've tasted for long black. I'll probably drink this occasionally.
I tried Brazil Premium Bourbon and I found it to be too bitter/sour and I felt like it didn't have the right characteristic for a black coffee.
I tried Samantran Mandheling Select and it tasted earthy and bitter similar to PNG but with more caffeine. I didn't find it good for black coffee either.
I tried PNG Kone Ka Estate and although it has a earthy taste which is not suitable for a black coffee, it's subtle and sweet so I kind of like it for some reason.
Lastly, I tried Forte from Baysbeans and it's a well balanced coffee but I can't say it's my favourite either.
My personal favourite coffee beans for black coffee is still Jamaica Blue signature blend from Commercial link removed. And so far, I haven't found a black coffee that tastes better than this yet. I'm still looking for a better black coffee.
I'm wondering, are espresso coffee beans good for long black? Because if so, I might consider trying the espresso Wow from Coffeesnobs or Espresso Master from Baysbeans.

Are they going to include decaf and non-single origin(Fiefy blend) coffee beans in the random selection? If so, I might reconsider ordering the sample pack since I'll have less chance of getting what I want.Originally posted by richard_m_h View PostIts a lottery.
PS The Brazil Premium Bourbon is also good.
I'm thinking of trying India Elephant Hills Peaberry, espresso wow and maybe Brazil Premium Bourbon after looking at the suggestions.
I forgot to mention that I grind the coffee beans in espresso mode(highest fine level) because that seems to bring the most flavours. And I brew it using Aeropress.Last edited by Heinstar; 25 June 2013, 09:27 PM.

I was thinking about trying either Coffeesnobs Gold, Peru Ceja de Selva Estate or Sumatran Mandheling Select which sounded suitable for long black after reading the description. But I wasn't certain if I was right or not. I'll try the espresso wow first now that you mentioned it. Thanks for the suggestion.Originally posted by fg1972 View PostHi Heinstar and a warm welcome to you.
I don't know if there is a 'best' bean as such, some like this type, some like another type, some like it made like this, others like it like that.
Its a bit of a personal thing at the end of the day but can tell you that any of the roasted beans from coffeesnobs are among the 'best' I've ever tried.
I can suggest the 'espresso wow' beans to start with.
I know what you mean. Some coffee beans just doesn't go well in long black like the Ethiopian which lacks in body from my experience. The only reason why I drink P.N.G is because that's the only coffee I liked from my local roaster.Originally posted by irrelevancy View PostDepends on what you like really.
For plain espresso/long blacks, I tend to avoid stuff from PNG/indonesia...for some reason the excess earthiness really doesn't work with me. I usually go for beans with a brighter profile for those kind of coffee - african/Sth american region etc

What kind of coffee beans will taste good in long black?
Hi guys, so my favourite way of drinking coffee is in long black. I currently grind P.N.G medium roast from my local roaster and drink it in black because I haven't found any other coffee beans that tastes good in long black.
I just ordered Forte coffee beans from baybeans and I'm planning on drinking it in black when it arrives. I also heard that coffeesnobs has some good coffee beans as well.
I have no idea what kind of coffee beans will taste good in long black from this site. Could you help me pick the best coffee bean for long black?
Thanks.Tags: None
