Hi All,
I'm new to CS and have some questions. About 18 months ago I inherited 18 kilo's of green beans that weren't bought from CS. I had a mate with a commercial roaster so I started roasting them and using them on my home machine (a Breville) which lasted about 3 months till I lost access to the roaster. So after some research I bought a Behmor 1600 from CS with some help from Andy. It honestly was one of the best purchased I've ever made in my life.
Anyway, long story short, I'm down to my last 500 gms of green beans so I need to restock. I have NO idea what to buy as I've never bought green beans before. I like all sorts of coffee - strong, mild, nutty, black, with milk, latte's, flat whites etc.
Also, my burr grinder blades are also at the end of their life and I don't think its really worth replacing them, I'd rather just buy a new grinder - it was a cheap Breville as well.
So my questions are:
1) What would anyone recommend I try in the way of Green beans. As mentioned, I have NO idea and no real preconceived ideas.
The beans I had were a blend from another green bean place - their description was "This blend of South American and African coffee has a rich smooth flavour and distinctive aroma. A medium bodied coffee with a crisp / lively acidity." I really really enjoyed it and it was quite strong.
I would like to buy a selection of different options (so maybe 5 different types) and would prefer to buy a fair bit (e.g. 10 - 15 kg) to save on postage costs.
My problem is there are so many options in the beanbag that I have no idea where to start.
In case it matters or anyone is interested I am in Bairnsdale in Victoria.
2) My burr grinder is at the end of it's life. What would people recommend as a replacement? Happy to spend up to $150.00 on a decent grinder that has replaceable blades and will last a long time.
3) What do people clean their Behmor 1600's with? The instructions that came with it said to clean the sensors regularly or they would stop being as effective, but gave options for cleaners but they were all American - should I just use regular detergent or is there some kind of non abrasive cleaner I should use on it? Currently just using water and a cloth.
Thanks for any help or suggestions anyone has.
Cheers,
Anthony
