This is totally normal in Perth cafés. Takeaway price is normally 20-30c more.
I'm sure this has nothing to do with the actual reasons behind the cost difference, but I think it would be wise to encourage people to have dine in coffee, since they're more likely to order a second one! I know I frequently do :S

cost of coffee
a standard cup of coffee has a single shot of espresso and approx 250ml liquidOriginally posted by GrahamK View PostI noticed something I had not seen before today, a small middle of mall type Kiosk Café, where the price of Takeaway coffee was MORE than the cost of a Sit-down coffee. I'm used to it being the other way round, and wondered if this was usual, a trend, or just due to specific circumstances. I owned a Café years ago, and always considered the costs of serving, washing up etc warranted the extra costs. Maybe things have changed and the costs of takeaway cups/lids etc is changing that concept. Have I just been unobservant of late, or is it unusual?

in our store, a take away regular coffee (8oz cup = 335ml) has 2 shots of espresso and 300+ liquid + cost of the cup
a sit down flat white costs $3.80 while the take away costs $4.00
I think you're getting extremely good value for the extra 20c

I've seen it with respect to milk-based drinks (not often though), where the standard take-away size is considerable larger than the establishment's latte glasses. One place (can't remember where had the prices in this order : Takeaway in Keep Cup < Sit-down < take-away in disposable cup...but the entire range was 50c.
