  • Video that 2 other folks & I made about Espresso preparation & extraction.

    Hello to all!

This is my first post as you may see yet certainly not my last!

My good friends and I decided to put together a short but sweet clip about Espresso extraction. Please note this is not a 'how to' guide, nor is it an authority on the subject; simply the techniques I have been taught & that I use every day to try & pull the best flavours from espresso.

If you have ANY feedback, questions or criticism don't hesitate to post it here as it is more than welcomed!

    Enjoy.

      Nice video, well done.

I'm curious why you top up your dose, rather than program your mazzer for the full dose each time?

Excellent question. When I dial everything in in the morning I adjust the dosage accordingly, but I find the dosage to be quite inconsistent on my mazzer throughout the day; thus sometimes I am manually adding a touch or even wiping a dash off. It just so happens that the 2 pieces we shot for the video have me adding

I have been to a couple of specialty coffee shops here in Melbourne where they weigh each dose before placing into the basket etc

In my case i always slightly overdose, collapse, distribute, tamp and clean. Less time wasted.

I work with these grinders and the variation in dosage can just get out of hand quite easily. Just gotta be visual and aware as to how much is going into the basket.

Absolutely. In the end whatever works for you is all that matters, whatever it takes to keep your level of consistency is all that is important!

Once I was taught to pay attention to the dosage the mazzer would spill out it all started to suddenly make so much sense! You need to be on your game 100% I agree otherwise you start to fight with the grinder and wonder why your flow rate varies so much, this is so important.

Thanks for your interest so far everyone!
