Hey there Base,
I also had the exact same issue as you from doing the same thing, once I removed the steam wand on my 4800 (a great first machine for me) and then went to put it back on, complete with the grommet etc, it would leak at the joint. Tried removing and reattaching it etc but nothing sorted it out until I got another rubber washer to fit it and reattached it with that and it did the trick. Was a little bit of fiddling, but at least the washer didnt cost much and it eventually did the trick.
Awesome, thanks for the advice oldlaz. Have done some more digging and it looks like there should in fact be another o-ring at the bottom as well as the top. Have ordered two o-rings and hopefully replacing these will fix the problem up(I miss my machine).

Noob here so apologies if I've posted on the wrong board. My problem is thus - have recently acquired a Sunbeam EM4800C which was working perfectly for a month or two. On the weekend I decided to remove and clean the showerscreen (plus grouphead rubber collar). I also decided to clean the steam wand and remove some scummy milk buildup and instead of soaking the wand attached, I removed the wand itself to give it a good soak in the sink.
After cleaning, I have replaced the wand but notice that when screwed in there is about a 1mm gap at the top and a bit of movement with it wobbling around. it didn't do this prior. The steamer now is losing a lot of steam through this join which used to be pretty tight. The screw itself was very tight to remove but can't be tightened any further when I put it on. Have searched everywhere but it doesn't look like I'm missing a grommet from the top of the wand and i don't believe there was one to begin with. This has me wondering if the small rubber grommet around the brass inner part of the steamer has been compromised when the wand was removed, hence allowing a gap for the steam to escape out above. The machine itself is 5 years old - is this an appropriate lifetime for a grommet to fail?
Does anybody have any thoughts or insight into what the problem could be? As I said, this was working perfectly until removing the part.
