I try to think of and address any questions that might come from my posts. That tends to increase the length, but then I don't have to do multiple posts to add extra info.
That's under 100 so I'll have a long strong macchiato thanks Michael... in a glass though.
I must admit that as of recent I haven't posted because of all this mambo jumbo stuff and frankly haven't the time to read an essay on every single post mostly from the same people saying the same thing just in different threads. However I have found my second wind now. But please people, whatever you can say in 1000 words, you can definitely say it simpler and easier in 500 and more people will like you and like reading your posts.
I just find it tiresome to get involved in some threads.
It seems that many people are just spoiling for an argument a lot of the time, and quite frankly, I can't be bothered wasting my time with them.
I see many people with the best intentions and good answers getting caned for offering help and it's usually because someone in the thread has decided that they violently oppose a view or statement offered.
And like Chris, once it goes over a certain word count, I'm not even reading it!
While we rarely give credit when credit is due, many of us here do appreciate your words of wisdom that are based on your years of experience in the coffee industry. While the internet has heaps of information on coffee from many sources, a lot of it is rubbish. It is most difficult for us less experienced ones to sort out the wheat from the chaff to find the truth.
In general, negative experiences have taught me that it's often better to just say nothing.
There are so many instances where I take significant time out of my day here, via email and on the phone to assist people with issues and/or offer advice. I often wonder why I bother in that the assistance is just expected and it's so rare that a thank you is even offered. I could tell a few stories, but won't!
Guys- If it's 1000 words, I'm not reading it. Period. I'm not interested in indulging egos and reading stuff which is often factually incorrect mumbo jumbo.
Tread lightly guys and treat people as you would like to be treated.
Totally agree Yelta! I don't wish to name any names but there have been some whacky, long winded techniques put to some simple, simple issue. I don't have any paper on my techniques but only the product which I produce. (which, pardon me for seeming arrogant, isn't too bad at all )
I personally have 2 rules when it comes to espresso and teaching others about it;
1 - Keep it consistent
2 - Keep it simple.
Michael
PS: Not just espresso but brewing as well

Reason: ps
Yelta, ditto with the experienced players having a say, I for one have learned so much this past 2 months from the CS forum, so please guys, don't be put off by us long winded noobs.
I've noticed a trend becoming more evident over the past few months for a few of the (newer experts) to pontificate at length about their newly discovered skills.
Some of the statements made border on outrageous, if corrected they simply dig their heels in and back their claims up with even more long winded mumbo jumbo.
All well and good you might say, everyone is entitled to an opinion, however Coffee Snobs is inhabited by many newcomers desperate for advice, reading through some of the threads mentioned would leave these people hopelessly confused.
Another trend I've noticed is for more and more of our experienced members to take a back seat, simply because responding to these epic posts achieves nothing other than another long winded post in an attempt to prove the validity of the gospel they are preaching.
Some of these long winded frustrated writers would do well to remember that, the KISS principle most certainly applies to espresso coffee, and as far as words are concerned, sometimes less is more.
PS Just noticed the number of this post 2,666, the devil made me do it.
