    Hi Jonathan,

Sadly pricing has increased since then and I suspect we will see more due to the depreciation against the Euro.

Rocket, VBM, LM, Expobar and a few others are yet to move much (or at all) and this is not sustainable. I'd be moving quicker rather than later on any of these brands as the only pathway for price is currently up. It's a good time for exports, but not for imports....

    I haven't seen a 3y.o. GS3 selling for 2.2k.......... if I had, it'd be on my bench!! :-D :-D
No the opposite, I'm thinking that if I buy a new one, the most I'll lose is $1k per year, and it seems like it'd be less.

Yes economic depreciation, alas no chance of claiming it as a business asset for tax depreciation purposes, can't see the ATO agreeing that I need it to make coffee at home to keep me awake when working from home.

Thanks for those links, it certainly seems that $1k per year loss in value would be a maximum loss, assuming a purchase price under $7k. (Wasn't Chris at TalkCoffee advertising one for less than $6k recently?)

I suspect Jonathon is referring to economic depreciation rather than tax depreciation (as depreciation on the coffee machine is unlikely to be deductible for your average Joe). I'm glad for Jonathon that his wife isn't too familiar with transaction costs

I don't think that the tax depreciation has got much to do with resale value.
No indication of what the machine sold for but if I had one 3 y.o. I'd be asking 4k, at least, to start with.

Are you looking to buy new or SH?

started a topic GS/3 resale value?

    GS/3 resale value?

Any idea what the GS/3 resale value is after 2-3 years? I'm thinking worst case is they depreciate by $1k per year for the first 3 years?

I tried looking through the sold items but couldn't find anything, perhaps because GS/3 owners rarely sell them - not much to upgrade to I suppose.

I ask because I joked with my wife that if I sell my car and buy a cheaper car I'd then buy the ultimate coffee machine, as the depreciation on the coffee machine would be less than the depreciation I'd save on the more expensive car, and to my surprise she said go for it!
Working...
