What I hate most about smoking is the effect it has on others. Its very invasive.

Exactly what I was on about Sparky. I dont really care that it makes peoples lungs implode.
Thats their bad luck. They chose to smoke.

But when if affects everyone else around them who dont smoke ..... thats what has made it so anti social now.

Each to their own I say. As long as they keep it to their own.

    enough said.

Hold on about the alcohol. Maybe bad alcohol, like XXXX, but lets keep the good stuff. Youll be prying the black sambucca out of my cold dead hands.

What I hate most about smoking is the effect it has on others. Its very invasive.
Yep, I agree with that and try to ensure Im not near other people..... If you only kill yourself through your own stupidity then thats your problem.... :

But consume alcohol ..... and you can kill other people also (look at alcohol related road accidents). Either the intoxicated person kills or injures someone else.... or by encouraging others to "have just one more" contributes to someone else doing the same.....

Dont get me wrong - I enjoy a drink or two (used to be a lot more) especially sambucca ......

But it is starting to be the next big "social" problem..... and then theres fast food, trans fats etc, etc.... :-/ :-/ :-/

Even breathing is lethal .... Statistically there is a 100% correlation between people who breath and death..... ;D ;D ah better stop then..... but wait - that causes death as well..... drat!

I must add here that every time I have seen JavaB have a smoke he has wandered outside some distance from where others are and smoked quietly to himself.

          (
You mean coffee is GOOD for you?  Whos been misleading me all this time.  Why, I even have to lie to my mother, telling her I have just one or two a day.

Obviously you can. Youve proved it again and again.

              100% agree!!!!

I had a discussion with someone (a smoker) here at work and his comment blew me away. It was, "I have the right to smoke around non smokers and take their clean air away"... I was disgusted! This was in response to my comments "What gives you the right to take AWAY my clean fresh air?"

Reality is, Smokers are a minority now... thank God...

Starting? Alcohol already is a social problem.... Going to a New Years Eve in Sydney City is living proof - the behaviour is appauling! All because they are full of the stuff... What gets me is the Police will always say "Oh, the revellers were well behaved this year"... What planet are they on??...

Dont get me wrong, I enjoy a quality Red but alcoholism - just plane stupid and irresponsible! Its almost as bad a Renta-Crowds demonstrating when Dick Chaney was in Sydney.... Revoke there dole I say!!! :-)... Ops... off topic... sorry ;-)

You could probably make a case for personal assault against someone with that attitude, given the recent changes to relevant laws in some states,

                      Re: Smoking Snobs?

I heard a story years ago about a girl that kept taking breaks from work every few hours of about 15 minutes at a time.
Shed go for a walk or have a coffee or something like that.

It soon came to the attention of management and she was asked to explain herself regarding the unauthorised absences.

She pointed out that she was merely take the same amount of time as the smokers, who also were disappearing several times a day for some time.
She said shed stop leaving her post if they did.
What she didnt like was taking up their slack.

                      Management backed down.

But the productivity picks up once the caffeine hits their system, so it evens out.

Yes, but I would have lost my job... nevertheless, his character was revealed and resultant fruit of it is evident today.

At times (not everyday), Ill have a 20min coffee break... and "refuse" to feel bad about it. I see the same smokers at least 5 times a day head outside with there cancer sticks... no-one questions them...!! Apparently its there right to have a cancer stick when they do!

                                Re: Smoking Snobs?

Cant resist jumping in..... in my role (pre retirement) as a senior manager (and a smoker)....

ALL staff (smokers, coffee addicts, soapy addicts, "slackers" or just "normal" employees).... should take a break every 45 minutes...

The adult attention span is just that .... 45 minutes after which productivity, creativity and the ability to concentrate drops appreciably. Add to that the fact that a significant percentage of people do screen based work, which, for OH&S reasons, requires a break to prevent eye strain and RSI.....

So having a break is actually beneficial and recharges the batteries in all sorts of ways...... and that break doesnt have to be for a cigarette.....

And most employees (except soapy addicts and "slackers") dont actually "switch off" during the break either still thinking about, even discussing, work related issues.

Its just a pity more places of employment arent enlightened and that their bosses act more like "Scrooge"..... turning them into sweat shops! - especially today where people are spending more and more time at work....

                                My 2 cents worth.
