    You mentioned that inserting the portafilter with a tamped load , then removing it without brewing shows the ground coffee pushed up the sides of the basket 2-3mm.

    Sounds to me like an updosed basket that the showerscreen compresses and disrupts the grinds, fracturing the tamped load and leading to channeling.

    what shape is the Sunbeam showerscreen ? Convex or concave ?

      I too commiserate with your puck woes. My pucks always used to be firm and dry, and now they are all coming out completely botched. When I discard the used puck from the portafilter, the top half falls out and smashes into lots of tiny pieces and the rest is all matted with a pronounced convex shape to it. Its impossible to knock out and I have to scoop out with a spoon. Aint espresso the pits sometimes Ive tried Staub tamps, double/settling tamps, normal tamps (with a correctly fitted tamper), and different dosing levels. But alas, still no luck

      Oh well, just keep grinding I guess :P
