    A bit of a laugh this morning...

    Good Food - Butter in your coffee: Australia's next cafe trend?

    Don't know about yourselves, but I love a bit of pork crackling in my doppio.

    Why not?

    We've had Kopi Luwak now I present to you ....COFFEE LURPAK.........makes perfect sense to me

    Going to make me a coffee now...if only I knew where I placed my food processor.

      Tried the butter and coconut oil mix that popped up in the US... tastes like coffee with coconut oil and butter in it.

      Wasn't great. The fats improve the flavour of the coffee, but at the cost of overall appeal.

      I'd suggest anyone give it a go themselves... gotta try everything once?

        A cafe here in Byron do butter coffee, its pretty good. It will never be an every day thing for me and will never replace my espresso in the morning but, hey, give it a go, you might like it.

          I haven't tried it yet. But many people think 5% fat milk tastes much better in coffee than 1% fat, so maybe 60% fat butter tastes incredible?

          Don't knock it till you try it...

              I'll even add a dash of pure cream to full cream milk for a nice rich taste (when in the mood).
              Skim and any low fat milk just doesn't do it for me I'm afraid.
              I've never been down the "low fat' high carbo" road with my diet and I am 68, lean and mean!

                Nothing new here. In South East Asia they have been roasting with butter for as long as I can remember. It's all milk just in another denser form (with salt). I am sure it would taste great but I've got enough fat in my life...no need to add more thanks.

                      I saw that article too.... So being an inquisitive type of guy, I gave it a go.... A desert spoon of butter into the espresso Yeah!...Until I tasted it...Then Nooooooo...Eeewwwww....Nasty, nasty stuff....Salt in your coffee don't taste good at all....

                      I have since re read the article and found out you need to put ghee in the coffee...So I've bought some UNSALTED butter and will make some ghee today and give it a try...I may even add some coconut oil if I like the flavour of the original suggestion.....Or it may well be thrown down the sink, again....

                            Yeah Same....

                            Not my cup of tea...It's OK I guess...I'd much rather a standard cappuccino any day, but that's me....

                            This is how I made mine...

                            500 grams of unsalted butter made into ghee (I can use the rest in my cooking)

                            Ghee recipe and method

                            500 grams of unsalted butter into pot on stove gentle heat medium at the most
                            Melt butter down...Have lid handy incase butter starts to bubble up
                            When butter is fully melted take off heat for a moment
                            Remove Froth or scum from top with slotted or holed spoon...Do a good job of this, as it saves you removing the rest during the next process
                            Turn heat down to low put pot back on heat and gently heat for 10-15 mins gently removing any other scum that is on top
                            During this process, butter will turn a clear yellow colour, when that happens you will probably see fines on the bottom of pot turn slightly brown.
                            Take off heat after 10 -15 mins
                            Use a filter paper from a coffee maker or cheese cloth on top of a funnel and pour into a jar put lid on jar and store...I just used two fine strainers to strain.
                            You should have your clear ghee now, apparently this can keep in your cupboard for several months no refrigeration required.

                            There you have it...Ghee made at home for the cost of 500 grams of butter and some time.

                            Butter coffee recipe

                            15 grams of ghee
                            1 espresso shot
                            170 ml hot water.

                            Pull your espresso
                            Add ghee
                            Add water
                            Mix in thoroughly
                            Top up cup with hot water if required

                              It's not done for the taste.....

                              It is done to provide a source of fuel for the body. The butter and MCT oil are both high in fat and therefore provide an excellent source of energy.

                              They also slow down the absorption of the caffeine and give a sustained effect, rather than a short hit.

                              The butter should be from a grass-fed cow. Less toxins, much healthier.

                              If I make myself one of these at 7.00am, I can easily make 1pm without the need to eat or any hunger to distract me.

                              The body learns to use fat as an energy source rather than carbohydrate (sugar)

                              Most people are deficient in high quality fats as well, so there is also that added health benefit.

                              It has become popular with athletes due to the energy it provides, it is popular with others because they don't have to eat, your head seems very clear and thoughts are focused. No jitters either due to the fat slow down the caffeine hit.

                              That's the simple version.

                              The recipe looks like this at the top end.

                              1 Long Black
                              30 ml MCT oil
                              80 grams butter

                              You would never start someone at this though. They will need to go to the toilet for an explosive number 2. The MCT oil dose and butter would be built up over time.

                              I would start someone at amounts below, and see how their body tolerated it.

                              10ml MCT
                              20-30 grams butter

                              It really is awesome for travel etc, you simply dont need food or crave it.

                              Both are from grass-fed cows
