You could always go with a Puqpress Mini ... if you had the bench space.... and the spare $900 😁

I am a fan of the normcore but wanted a little more travel depth and one hand operation so went for the happy tamper - bit pricey but very ergonomic and delivers smooth pressure.

I use a normcore tamp with 25lb pressure. Since I'm new to the game, I figured the tamp would reduce a lot of user error, which it certainly has. The tamp that comes with the BDB is horrible in comparison.

    My puck-prep workflow:

    1. Finger tap the sides of portafilter for horizontal distribution
    2. Gently knock portafilter on a tamping stand for vertical distribution
    3. A few spins with a leveler tool (OCD-like). I don't apply any downward pressure, the weight of the tool is sufficient. I stop spinning when it sits on the lip of the basket.
    4. I tamp relatively hard (10 KG?) with a self-leveling tamper.

Done. I almost never have channeling issues. And no, I don't WDT.

Re the water level sensor, they are pretty basic but can get blocked with scale. Again you can just physically clean or throw in some descaler for a few hours. They are just a stainless steel rod with a plastic sleeve and a male spade terminal connector on top.

    no change in sound

I got a new anti vac - so i'll chuck that in

the other thing i thought it could be is the water level sensor so I'll put in a new one of those as well and give it a whirl.

Seems that its not my face that is causing the issue!!

    It's my Attitude!!

    Oh no!

Can ad to Ben's list....Or MicroSwitch is faulty or needs re-adjustment to match the activating 'cam' on the lever.

So Did the Wife like/agree with the Surgeons' handywork ?

PS MAybe Coffeed2 means there is a rise in decibles / noise / pitch or tone during the shot ?
Is it a woop wwoop wwwoooooppp type sound Coffeed2? high pitch metallic sound?

No making much sense to me.

When you are pouring a shot the pump starts running as soon as you raise the lever??

Also it would be unlikely that the safety valve is leaking as the only usually do in over pressure situation 1.7 or 2 bar to save the boiler from exploding. The anti-valve being faulty or stuck would explain moisture and lack of steam power. You can try a couple of things, grab a plastic or wooden spoon and give it some decent presses and purge some steam to see if you can clear any debri (don't burn yourself). Remove the anit-vac valve when the machine is cool and give it a physical clean and/or chuck it in descaler for a few hours.

I have noticed that when pouring a shot - the pressure will sometime drop and the pump will start to operate - not sure why this happens - any ideas?
I have recently ( about 3 months ago ) rebuilt most of this machine - replaced most of the seals , pulled the boiler out and cleaned, replaced element, new controller.
Only things I didn't replace were the micro switches and the water level probe.
    Any ideas??
    Thanks Coffeed2
You mean as in when steaming milk - pump will kick in?
Is it rotary or vibe ?

BTW How did the transplant end up ? Doc did as good job ?
