There could be an actual mechanism for caffeine to reduce depressive symptoms, as caffeine seems to be linked to reducing some inflammation in the brain, and recent research into depression suggests that it may be caused by chronic low level inflammation of the brain.
I went throught a phase of drink about 12 cups a day I felt constantly on edge and easily angered I keep it down to 3 a day and none after 6pm of I can't sleep
Hi J, the opposing side of the coin (drinking 2 to 4 cups a day and indicating less depressive symptoms) is that some individuals can over a period, develop an adverse reaction to the caffeine which is very very (VERY) unpleasant and bad for the heart atleast in the short term.
For example unless I am doing a cupping session, I restrict myself to 2 cups a day for my own pleasure (and must be good), and sometimes I may stretch that to 3. And you learn what suits you, by having done it over a period of years and learning your own tolerances.
Another article from the Australian, not as positive as the previous one, however I'll take heart from this excerpt.
“In a recent study, those who drank two to four cups of caffein*ated coffee had fewer depressive symptoms,” Johnson says, “and the opposite was true for those who lowered their intake.
Cherry picking I know.
