Only just now a friend rang and said she was charged the full $230 by Supreme to service their machine (also a Sylvia after seeing mine) and clean a Compak K3P grinder. Both are less than a year old and only make about 6 shots/week so would have only needed cleaning and consumables. Full bill was $290. Is that in the ballpark?
i find that ridiculous already, that's the cost of servicing my car! won't be paying that much for a machine with no obvious functional issues. really just needs an inspection and a descale.

Recently found out they have inhouse technicians too after buying a R58 from them

    thanks!

I charge $70/hr for general repairs, troubleshooting and maintenance.
Jobs that I know what I will be doing and that are straightforward generally have set rates.

Your technician may think the job will take 10 minutes so at $230/hr he will make about $40, which is fair. Otherwise, at $70 or $90 an hour, he would only make $15.
He should have set rates rather than an hourly rate for a repair like this.

I work on 2-5 Silvias a week. A 12 month old machine (no issues) gets $95 labour; $30 parts. A new resin filter if equipped add $15 more.

Only for a tech who doesn't want the work. Time to find another tech.

    Hourly Rate - Machine Servicing

Live in Perth, have a Rancilio Silvia. 12 months old, needs a service and the screen replaced, plus no doubt a few other consumables. Is $230 / hour the going rate??

    Seems extremely expensive for mine

I know I should do it myself, but time is against me and it needs doing.
Working...
