Yes, if for nothing else you can always use the plunger for frothing milk. I forgot about that.Originally posted by offthecliff View PostHave a similar plunger I use for milk frothing with aeropress/moka pot.
I've got an IKEA one, and it works fine, but I use it for tea only. For $10 I think you can pick anyone of them and you won't notice any difference. It might have been a joke, but I think the IKEA one comes assembled too

The Kmart one that is full plastic can be microwaved. Not sure it your supposed to. Have a similar plunger I use for milk frothing with aeropress/moka pot.

Hiya
Bit late now but I detest the plungers with the rotating plastic at the top with the filter. I think they are supposed to be for filtering out tea leaves if you use it for tea. Also the Ikea says it can be disassembled for cleaning.
Of course the Kmart one will come assembled already - you will have to assemble the Ikea one your self :-)

The Kmart ones do the job well, I use one often for pseudo cupping roasts, much simpler than Aeropress.
Its more about the roast / grinder / brewing technique.
After you buy one read this - http://www.jimseven.com/2010/11/04/c...-french-press/

For durability I would recommend a plunger made from glass and metal rather then plastic. After that, I don't think it matters as the quality of the coffee will be the most important factor in your coffee enjoyment.

Sorry, I'm comparing this at IKEAOriginally posted by Barry O'Speedwagon View PostMaybe, though the dowel pins might get soft after repeated exposure to water
Seriously though, you're asking for people to have particularly good imaginations to compare an unspecified plunger v an unspecified plunger.
I think we've been here before, but.....I take it an Aeropress is out of the budget range?
UPPHETTA Coffee/tea maker - IKEA
with this at KMART
3 Cup Coffee Plunger | Kmart
The Aeropress is a bit out of my budget range at the moment.

Coffee plunger - IKEA vs KMART
I'm looking to buy a coffee plunger and I'm on a low budget. Would the coffee plungers at IKEA last longer than the ones at KMART?
