No chance id bring something back without checking. Who would want to be known as the guy who singlehandledly killed off an industry because they didnt check for a particular bug or mite that then runs rampant.

Well good on ya for checking first and not just trying to smuggle some back
Most people seem to snuff at quarantine laws and underestimate their environmental and agricultural importance. Australia is the ONLY coffee producing country in the world that is free of the devestating coffee leaf rust. While the situation is well controlled in Hawaii, hulled green beans are a poor vector for the disease, and you don't work on a coffee farm... we aren't the ones to make these decisions.

I went through this back in 2008 - see the thread here

I would suggest it is only worth it if you know a particular Kona that you like and you know they will sell you the green.
The places I went to were pretty unsure about selling the green beans and the price was pretty high.
Good luck with whatever you decide!
Brett.

See here for importing greens
You would need a permit.
See here for importing roasted coffee, excluding Kopi Luwak.
You do not need a permit.
I would assume that these requirements apply for goods brought in as passenger luggage on a flight, but it would be worth checking with AQIS to confirm. They don't bite. 1800 900 090 or email them here

Bringing back green beans from Hawaii
This has probably been asked before, but thought I would ask again
I am going to Hawaii in July, and will be doing at least one coffee tour. I am suspecting that I will be able to buy both roasted and unroasted coffee while touring Kona, and wanted to know if anyone had any experience in bringing back green beans from overseas.
Obviously I would declare them, but not sure what the likelihood of being able to bring them in myself will be.
