Usually two singles (VST 7g, dosed to 7.2g "mostly") a day. Until summer, rarely more than that.

Really hot days (today is 39 in Perth), I often add a "nitro iced coffee" - an 18g double ristretto poured over a natural ice cream, no pansy stuff like water or milk. Refreshing & uplifting. Sometimes I do a hazelnut afrogato as a change.

The other main strays are the times I make a cold steep or a Turkish (or three - hard to stop at one).

On (rare) testing / tasting days I usually have the equivalent of 6 * 15g doubles before I buzz.

Thanks for the fascinating replies. Makes me feel better to know most people drink around the same as me give or take. Interesting reading.

I'm good for 3 doubles. One in a cap, the other two as espressos. Keeps me feeling the best I can be

Lately because I love Andy's Zimbabwe Chimanimani so much (CS9/10) I've been drinking three, four or five doubles (15grm Rancilio standard basket dosed to 17-17.5grms, 25 ml or so at 28-38 seconds at 6.5 bar), but I just scored a new press at the op shop for $0.50 - Ka-ching! and made a big-ass (16oz) cup of the Zim and will probably have a piccolo after dinner and then a shot of the Indian Elephant Hills I roasted last Wednesday.

... is that ok? I should probably drink some water.

I would literally be sick if I drank that much and I'm not even old.......

On weekdays, usually a long mac with 2 doubles in the morning, and a triple around lunch. That's enough for me.

How many shots do you drink in a day!?

There's a misconception that caffeine 'dehydrates' you. This is not the case. It is however a mild diuretic so it can make you urinate a bit more than normal which in turn can dehydrate you. Obviously it's different from person to person but most people don't drink enough coffee for this to be a problem.
However most people also don't drink enough water so I would highly recommend everyone drink more water. About a year ago I had some minor health problems and after a bit of research I found a water drinking philosophy to try. It was the only thing that made any difference and its lead me to make some even greater dietary changes. I still drink 2 double shot coffees most days, but I also drink anything up to 5L of water starting from as soon as I wake up. (I've also cut out most of the added sugar from my diet along with a few other changes).

Anyway back to the coffee - I've read some interesting articles recently about research into the effects of caffeine on the body. Some were posted here on CS, others I found through work. I won't go into detail, but it's lead me to follow these simple rules as much as possible:
                    - 2 coffees a day maximum
                    - No caffeine within 6hrs of bedtime (important for me being a shift worker).
                    - Ideal time periods for drinking coffee (or any caffeine intake) are between 10am and Noon, and again between 2pm and 4pm (outside peak cortisol production).

All research shows that even people who don't think they are affected by a late night coffee do actually experience negative impacts on their sleep quality, so the 6hr rule is probably the most important.

Another piece of research found that most people would experience almost no negative effects of caffeine consumption if they were to have just one double shot of coffee every 48hrs. Ideally it would be drunk at around 10-11am every 2nd day. I've chosen to ignore this one. For now anyway.

I know that if I've had a coffee or two (not with milk) I'll feel more dehydrated or at least have a dryer feeling mouth if I went the same period of time without water and no coffee.

Yeah there's generally enough 'fluid' in a standard milk coffee or long black/Americano to counteract the diuretic effect of the caffeine. Obviously an espresso/short black/ristretto lacks this so its not surprising.

new to CS and havent even introduced myself yet but felt the need to chime in on this. I work upwards of 15 hours a day, 7 days a week, and find I'm now having 3 doubles before 8.30am, a few more through the day and finishing up around 5pm with a Vietnamese Iced coffee.

Too much? Probably. Care factor? Zero at the moment. This intake is required at the moment while my wife and I get the new business off the ground.

Jeez ... I haven't done that sort of work since I did commercial diving.

We were too afraid to drink much caffeine then due to fears of vasoconstriction and decompression illness. I drank a lot of ginger tea with honey.
