    Wow - thats really inspiring!! I thought my beans would arrive today for sure, but they didnt - Ive been waiting around, planning to have a go this afternoon, but Ill just have to wait. Maybe tomorrow...;-P With all the interesting responses to my initial post, Im feeling as if I have a fair idea of what to expect - and Ill do it in daylight!!

      oooh! the nerves must be driving you crazy!
      I hate that...
      Are you using a popper or a heat gun?

      Few points... the cracks sound very different, dont forget the beans take alittle while to degas, so if u roast them at night they will smell *orgasmic* by morning and dont eat to many or ull be very very ill :-X

        1st crack sounds similiar to popcorn while 2nd crack is much softer and sounds more like crinkling cellophane. Enjoy!

          Wooo. Lots of enthusiasm out there for roasting.

          I started about 3 years ago using a popcorn popper. You certainly cant look back once you have started. I had the popper already so my total cost to get into roasting was $15 for a sieve to help cool the beans once I tipped them out of the roaster.

          I am now waiting on my newbie pack to arrive!
