Well, me being me, I would just slowly work my way through all of them.

Comes down to what sort of flavours you chase in a coffee I'd reckon. I love Africans, Indians, Indonesians, PNGs, Central Americans and Western South Americans. Take your pick out of that lot mate and see what you think. Might also help to talk to the good people at Burton's and get their impressions - Kind of like what Andy does with each of the beans available on CoffeeSnobs...

Hi LeroyC, good to see they still have a good range, and good to deal with.

Now just have to see how much.

So it turns out we have access to a fairly good range of coffee here in NZ. Below is Burton's current stock list. Good selection including FTO, decaf, and micro-lot. Don't know prices yet sorry.
Another independent importer is Harrisons. Could be worth checking with them as well as they might be happy to sell to the public too.

I'll give Green Bean House a spin. I did glance at there Ethiopian beans earlier and nearly fell of my chair as my go to house bean is Bean Bay's Ethiopian Gambella Sundried at $11/kg. I guess its time to start trialing new beans

I just spoke to a very nice lady on the phone at John Burton. She said they DO sell to the public and are happy to sell and ship small quantities. They're moving at the moment so won't be able to ship anything for a couple of weeks, but will be happy to do so again after that. Not sure about Central Otago, but its worth a try.
They don't have an online shop so everything is done via email. Contact Fiona on fiona@johnburton.co.nz for a list of what's currently available. It won't include prices as they fluctuate so she'll just provide quotes for whatever you might want.

Might be worth a try then. To be honest I didn't try very hard, just filled out a contact form on their website and got no reply. Those things are notorious for not working well so I'll pick up the phone and give them a call this week.

They're NZ's biggest independent importer so have access to good stuff, just not sure what they offer at the moment. I'm guessing minimum bag size could be 5kg. What sizes did you used to order Logga, and when did you last buy from them?
Hi LeroyC, Yeah it was probably a bit over a year ago that I last got some greens from them, they were really good, I was getting 1kg lots and 4kg lots, just what ever really.

It mite be worth a phone call to them because as I said they were really good about it, but maybe they have finished doing small quantities?

Hi Mitch, I used to get some greens from, "Our Coffee - John Burton Limited". Just Google it. They would sell me any amount, and were good on the phone and email.

And it was worth talking to them about a certain bean because they mite have it or can get it.

No worries. Being based in Central Otago makes things a bit more difficult and you're probably going to have to rely on mail order. Green Bean House do nationwide shipping for $7 (under 8kg) which isn't too bad if you get a few kg's, and it's only $11.50 shipping if you're a rural address which is actually pretty cheap for rural delivery. It looks like there's only a few local boutique roasters - Venus Coffee and Patagonia Chocolates in Wanaka and Bean Around the World in Queenstown, so whether you'll be able to get anything from them or not it's hard to know. There are three resource websites that I use as well. If you haven't found them yet it's worth bookmarking them. They are: 1. NZ Coffee Awards ( coffeeawards.co.nz ), 2. NZ Specialty Coffee Association ( nzcra.org.nz ), 3. Coffee Secrets ( coffeesecrets.co.nz ).

Welcome to NZ mate. You're right, the selection here is terrible. Prices are probably only slightly higher than Australia considering the exchange rate, but we're a bit starved for choice. Even the official Behmor supplier Green Bean House doesn't even come close to Bean Bay, but they're probably still the best online option as they have the largest range. They start at $11/kg for an Indian, with a few between $15 & $20/kg and a few more up to mid $30s/kg. Shipping can be as little as a few dollars so if you order 3-4kg at a time it's not too bad. They give the most info on the beans as well, whereas other sites will just be 'Sumatran', 'Colombian', 'Ethiopian' etc and probably all get their greens from one or both of the 2 big importers.

What part of NZ are you in? Some roasters will sell you greens if you ask nicely and can be fairly reasonably priced. Other than that the only one I'd recommend for online purchasing is Excelso Coffee Roasters in Tauranga. They've got the next best selection and pricing after Green Bean House. If you're desperate the other online options are Beanzone, Global Coffee, Homebaristashop, Merito Coffee Roasters (for small packs) or the Hottop importer (can't remember their name sorry, but you'll find them). Good luck.
