How do you flush the group without constantly wetting the scales? Does it matter if they are exposed to temperature and water like that regularly?

I've always wondered the same. I have the scale sitting on top of the drip tray, and always slide it to one side when flushing the group.

They're not waterproof, though splashing from below is most likely to cause ingress. Acaia sell a base specifically to avoid them getting water inside when used in the drip tray.

That said I've never had any reliability problems caused by water - just the minor annoyance that the touch sensitive buttons don't work when wet and by default they change to a different mode when they detect water (I'm sure this is configurable, but I've never bothered to change it as I just keep them dry).

Funnily enough, Acaia don't use the words waterproof or sealed on the product page but do claim it's both in the 2015 blog post announcing it (which also has the gif of them dropping one in a shallow container of water - I wonder whether that scale is still alive... [emoji848]) .

It certainly wouldn't pass any IPxx rating as it's not remotely sealed against water ingress (that would require friction between the base and upper, which isn't an option for obvious reasons) - but they do note that "the electronics within have a protective spray coating to shield against moisture" which although not "waterproof" as such does seem to work, so far at least. But I wouldn't like to test that by getting water inside the case regularly.
