Here's my beloved coffee nook @smee. After my wife and I were sick of getting in each other's way in our last house, we designed my nook just out of the kitchen.
I have a sink with hot and cold water, a knock box under that chrome 'bin lid'. I just used the knocker from my old Sunbeam Bang Bang and made some holes in the plastic chute. Fits perfectly and I can easily remove it for cleaning. I have an old round Tupperware container on the first shelf to catch the pucks. This way, it's so easy to take out to the compost (or worms) and clean.
I must admit though, I don't use the bottom cupboards or drawers as much as I thought I would. Mostly for storage that I never actually use. Top drawer is great though!
The Gaggia is plumbed in (obviously
and the waste hose just sits in the sink. I think I'll have to drill a hole in the stone bench top to get rid of the water hose that's popping out the front. Meh, Another project for another time I guess.
I have no idea what that grinder is. I took the doser off and just glued a chrome pipe on instead. Works for me nicely.
This area works really nicely for me (and my wife
Do you have any photos of the finished product Smee?

My kitchen *is* a coffee station... benefits of living alone!
I do have to cuddle the cat while I'm using pourover/trinity one though, as she has decided the brew bench, being behind the sofa, is part of the loungeroom and not the kitchen, and therefore fair game.

Just came across this thread, here's my set up, its been in operation for almost a year, the only negative is, that its cosy if someone wants to go past while I'm at the machine, but not a big issue, the other option would have been to have the sink at the other end of the bench, but i don't think I'd like that, as I can still be part of whats going on while making coffees the way it is.
For perspective, the pantry is 3m long, so the cupboard and overhead shelving bays are a metre less panel thickness.
The plan is that eventually the VBM will be replaced with a plumbed machine, at which time the power cords for machine and grinder will be routed under the bench (where there is a double 15amp GPO) The tap is a 3 way mixer, with a Brita C50 Fresh filter (as reccommended by Bombora) underbench. Cloths hang on the extendable towel rail when I want to be tidy & cleaning stuff sits in a tray on the shelf.
I also have the option of moving the machine out into the kitchen, and have plumbing & power go through the bench and wall into the pantry cupboard. Kitchen & pantry were designed around coffee requirements.
I love that HWTHIB is totally addicted I and no longer have to 'justify' anything coffee relatedLast edited by coffee_mum; 23 May 2017, 08:13 PM.

Drainage for a sink of some sort there would be an issue, but might be doable. On the other side of that shared wall is the tub, but until/unless I knock a hole in that wall I can't see whether there is enough wiggle room to tap into the tubs drain, and since it is a bottom drain odds are that it won't be possible. Alas it won't happen very soon as the budget for the upgrades to the house has been stretched further than I expected.Originally posted by Smee View PostSorry for your loss.
It actually sounds like a fab set up you have in your new home. If there's water in the wall adjoining your new coffee-breakfast room then I'm sure a plumber will be able to access that for you're plumb-in......however, drainage may be an issue.
Dont forget, once you've got it all set up, we'd love to see a picture.
There are some good ideas on this thread. I look forward to having my own little space to run my whacky caffeine adventures from and I can live without in built knock box but on the flip side it's good if you can modify ones space to assist the workflow & make everything a bit easier in the process.
I just hope I don't end up in the situation where folk come around and are dazzled by the bells and whistles but are repulsed by what I produce in the cup >>>>>
Since the Oracle and BDB are fairly water stingy in operation, running water isn't as big a deal as it might be with an HX. In the meantime I'm going to hit some of the local 'antique' dealers for some sort of basin that is decorative. Attached is a drawing of the house, note the breakfast area which is where the 'coffee corner' will be. I'm about a week away from actually moving in as I'm waiting for satellite TV and internet installers to come.

Sorry for your loss.Originally posted by lparsons21 View PostThis has been an interesting thread and I got some ideas for my installation. Just bought a new house the first of March. The design is pretty open with a centralized kitchen that doesn't have enough space for my coffee gear. But it has 2 dining areas, one called a 'breakfast room', I've made that my coffee room. I got a reclaimed wood credenza in place and a small, bar-height dinette table with chairs.
I have an Oracle and BDB on the credenza and because of the relative neatness of the machines i hadn't given water much thought since I couldn't figure out a way to get water to it as the house is built on a slab. As I've done some work getting things just the way I like them, I figured out that I could get a water supply to it as the wall it is on is shared with a bathroom on the other side. Getting it would be a bit of a mess but easier than chewing up some concrete.
In the meantime I'm using a relatively small old-style wash basin as a rinsing station. That works fine for the 3-4 times I use the machines during a day, but won't be so good when I have company. It wouldn't be a good way to do things if I had my old Alex HX machine over there, but the Breville's, especially the Oracle, are so clean and neat in operation, it fits for now.
BTW, I'm a widower so no wife to make happy, that really opens up possibilities.

Also, here's a tip - next time you have a top secret plan don't post it on a forum!
