Grinder Maintenance Regime

Usually do a vacuum and hopper wipe of my SJ once a month. I usually pull out the burrs when I'm majorly procrastinating which happens about 2 times a semester at the moment

I clean out the hopper and chute on my Mazzer Mini after each coffee making session.
Cleaning the burrs is probably not essential, but I've never tested that theory. Not much accummalates there in the Mazzer. I have noticed that the difference between burrs grinds/bean bits shortly after a clean and between long periods of clean is negligible.
My no.1 now is changing the burrs on schedule for the grinder.
That makes the biggest difference.
Best money I've spent on espresso.

M2M is easy to clean, adjust, use and a new pair of cutters costs about $28.00Originally posted by Boggas View PostThis is going slightly of topic but, I have seen a lot of good reports on the m2m.
What about this grinder do you feel earns it the best entry level prosumer grinder title?

Not much I can say about that then. I don't mind pulling things apart but sometimes I can't get them back together.Originally posted by Talk_Coffee View PostNone of them. They all take time...My experience is that they rarely get cleaned...
sometimes I'm left with 'spare' parts when I finally do get them back together.

I pull the Mazzer apart every few months. It doesn't take a lot of effort really and clean equipment = clean taste.

Occasionally I'll spend 30 seconds with the brush cleaning under the burrs... but then again, I guess manual grinders don't have a lot to clean :-)

All good mate...
Just wanted to point out that more often is an option really...

Certianly not necessary as you say, I just like to tinker in my spare time. I change beans a lot and no longer own my second mazzer so I like to give it a decent clean monthly. Easy if you have a micro dial style grinder as there is no need to recalibrate (I don't own one anymore but the design is great).Originally posted by Dimal View PostI think removal of the stationary burr carrier is not really required more often than monthly if you're doing all the other good things. I sometimes leave it for a couple of months and there is hardly any difference in retained coffee residues...

It looks like I'm not too far off the mark with my current process.
I am going to look into "grindz" and possibly removing the burr carrier for cleaning periodically. [emoji106]
